  • When and where exactly was the forum started? Anyone knows (well @Michael for sure)
I want to draw the natal chart, not that I believe in astrology, but it’s fun

  • I hit up Caelum Audio, dry begging for a revisit of last years NY Sale. I want Chloric. has anyone tried Emo Chorus?

  • I don’t know if I will achieve it, but my goal for 2025 is to sing and perform live again. Last time was 2008. It’s a little scary if I think about it too much but I have now retired and I have the time to put into it. It gives me a goal and a sense of purpose I guess!

    1. Get together with at least one of the two people that have been inviting me to come play with them. One, is a drummer, and It’s just him. The other is a guitarist, who has a huge building turned bandroom. He’s already got a drummer and a bass player, and they’re looking for another guitarist and/or synth.

    2. Start playing more guitar. I’ve been neglecting my guitar practicing because it’s so easy to pick up the iPad to noodle and make music with. Not to mention late at night, or early in the mornings when everyone else is still sleeping. Plugging in an electric guitar while your SO is sleeping in the same room doesn’t always go over well lol

    3. STOP buying every single app that comes out, and start learning the ones I have already. This includes doing some housekeeping and getting rid of apps that I don’t use, or ones that are redundant.

  • I have never stuck to any new tear resolution. So my resolution is to not make any.

Yeah, why bother following some arbitrary (and flawed) calendar some pope decided on centuries ago for no specific reason but imaginary sprits?
I do my new year’s resolution each day when I wake. I miss most of them, but tomorrow’s another day

    1. Avoid mind-barriers (i.e. - not telling myself, "it's supposed to sound different!")
    2. Give myself permission for my creations to suck
    3. Minimize more often

I like that list, I relate.

    1. I want to finish "mixing" the latest three songs we recorded. I struggle because...

    2. Over the last several years I decided that in order to sound contemporary we need to have "beats". So I am always trying to shoehorn our music and some drums together and I fail. We don't need drums, sometimes piano and voice is enough. Nick Lowe referred to the "tyranny of the snare", I've been feeling that. So I sold my Roland e-kit. I already feel relief.

    3. Stop judging myself, play and record only for the joy of it.

    This is a nice thread.

Oh, and happy new year friends.

  • I mentioned this post in jwmmakerofmusic's January Challenge thread and said that if I had made a musical resolution it would be to branch out and embrace more types of music.

I'm pretty sure hard rock and metal music will always be my favorites, but it's good to take a chance and listen to (and possibly create in) music genres that I normally wouldn't.

I don’t know if you have listened to dark synth but that is a very easy genre of music for metal head to get into.

I also asked this question: https://forum.loopypro.com/discussion/56713/does-the-forum-have-a-birthday#latest

  • I'm a little superstitious about making my plans/hopes public. I'm afraid it will dissipate my energy.
But I would like to do more sampling of found sounds, etc. to make into something.

  • for me music-making activities get lower priority in 2025 again – due to continuing war in Ukraine (that’s not good) and due to my huge plans for various activities in NLP community (that’s good).
    however:

    1. stick with my 2½-piece portable rig (iPad + Circuit Tracks + optional Launchpad Mini) and squeeze the maximum out of it.
    2. moar complete tracks – i mean, rehearsed or at least rehearsable.
    3. since i’ll turn 50 this year – playing a gig at my own birthday party in some underground club, and probably releasing a live recording of it.

I love the smell of found sounds in the morning

Btw, superstition only works for those that believe in said superstition. I mean if you are on lookout for black cats there’s a chance you’ll fall into a manhole cause your attention was elsewhere. Or if you walk under a ladder while someone is working a hammer up there, there might be a chance it’ll fall on your head
