    From my email:

All SessionBand apps $3 mega sale! Ends Friday 21st
    Quartet 5 (Christmas) launched today!
Major update for Quartet 1 - 4 available now (free)

"Major update for Quartet 1-4" = 'we chopped all the arrangements by about half, so kiss your live sets goodbye unless you like wrangling with loop settings for every song'. I've loved these apps since they first appeared but they're getting harder and harder to recommend as they become user-unfriendly moving targets.

Yeah, in the up side switching to a different volume from the global search is working better, in the downside… settings, nuked.

I'll give them the volume thing - that's great. But they took out the old favourite system in favour of the less-readable, less-reliable, multi-app one (which was broken, but the fix is in this update - haven't tested yet). There was still room for the old favourite system to coexist - why not have the extra flexibility?

The chopping the songs back though is a real pain. I'm guessing the rationale was to save space but notice they didn't even tout that as an update feature.

What does 'chopping the songs back' mean?

The arrangements are about half the length they used to be - they've literally cut the original recordings back. Songs where I'd play along for a chorus then improvise over a chorus - a couple of times, depending on the chart - finish after two runs through the chords. I've played along with some of these hundreds of times, so I know what would fit over the top before.

Oh right, wow, yeah good for space maybe but annoying for people like you who were used to things being a certain way. And that can't be adjusted?

There's a loop function - seems temperamental from my limited attempts to use it. I hope the loop points won't be obvious as I'm sure the charts were recorded straight through before - likely with some variation between choruses which will be gone now.

I suspect it’s just the repeats setting for each track having been messed up, I believe after a point a chorus was always repeated ad infinitum. It hasn’t been glaring in my use, I have Quartet apps (or tunes on YouTube) with a lead sheet up on my iPad - so it took a moment to notice the instrument key had reset to C.

Which Fabfilter graphic EQ should I get? I have seen some videos where you can see different tracks at the same time and can EQ them in one window? Do they all do this? Are there any less costly options out there?

Q4 is the one you want for that, I don't think there's any alternative app from another company which offers that on iOS.
Note btw, the FabFilter EQs are not 'graphic EQs', they're parametric EQs! See here if needed, for the difference:
    https://audiouniversityonline.com/parametric-eq-vs-graphic-eq/

    Thanks! Learning something new :)

  • It shows $19.99 here in US for Pro-Q4

It is Pro Q-4 that does what you are describing

Heads up; I corrected it a post later (but not graphic... Cause... screen cap), but AppRaven was incorrect with Pro-Q 4 pricing specifically

Sale price 29.99 (confirmed in store), 39.99reg

  • Wow! That's how I imagine using this kind of app. Thanks for the use guidence.

If you had to choose between FF ProC, compressor Or FF Pro-L Limiter, what would be best?

I use both on almost every project but they serve very different purposes. Pro-C is the best "all around" compressor on iOS. I use it on individual track inserts as well as the master buss. Pro-L I generally use on individual tracks just to check that levels are well under control then turn it off. Then I use it on the master buss, again to check levels and also apply gain if needed to get to the proper loudness level

If you don’t have pro-q3 or a great eq, I would definitely get pro-q4. It’s pretty amazing. There are very few eqs that get any close.

I treated myself to pro q4 when mixing / mastering my latest ep. Ended up putting it on basically every track and using the collision detection a lot. Once you have that, you can use side chaining and spectral dynamics to duck the specific frequency out of the way. It’s actually really simple to setup but works so well.

You can also do some live use with it, but not in every instance. Some presets/ functions introduce too much live latency.

    How is Elpiano?

  • One shot looks so tempting! If I'm perfectly happy with Pop Drummer should I still consider it? 8 really suck at creating drum kits or drum patterns.

Rum looks so tempting at that ridiculous low price of $2.99

I’m really tempted by Rum, but I remember reading the original thread a couple of years ago and the overall comments were not great, IIRC. What do you guys think about it? I’m trying to be rational about it since I already have Room Reverb, which is free, very detailed and iPhone-compatible.

It’s fine. Does what it says on the tin. Not a lot of IRs and it’s a bit heavy on DSP. But if you need a room it has a room.

Haha probably! It’s all been a blur lately, sales overload. Tings great, almost like an extension of skaka.
