how good are the Apple effects?
In AUM I see lots of standard effects from Apple in the AUv3 section. Are they worth using or are paid third party effects better?

I think they’re visually appealing, lightweight, and simple. Sometimes that’s what u need. It’s not fancy, or generative, but generally does what you expect on a basic level without fanfare.
I feel like they are definitely usable. I’ve only tried a few but the results have been fine IMO.
Isn’t this like holding a slice of pizza in your hand, and asking someone across the room “hey, is this pizza good?”??
Take a bite and find out!
Not really, because you could say that about anything.
You’re just being a wet blanket.
I heard good things about the compressor, but I don’t really use them to be honest. Some people did explore those a fair bit, I think @samu did a comprehensive review some time ago, if memory doesn’t fail
Nah, wasn't me but I do enjoy using the dynamic processor which has a combined gate/downward expander and compressor/limiter which is pretty handy
Sorry, I didn’t mean you reviewed them as such, but I think you’re the first person to bring them to my attention and have said good things about them, like you just did 😜
Well, I think it would be different if they were a paid collection of auv3 effects. They’re free, and everyone already has them. They’re just now exposed in AUM.
These are not the same as the great stock effects that come with Logic Pro, and lack niceties like presets or any sort of documentation. Several of them present their UI somewhat non-intuitively. on the plus side they seem very lightweight and can sound good if you get them dialed up just so. I have a lot of good third-party (and first-party!) plugins, so for my part I probably won’t mess with them much.
Good? Bad? Just extra tools available for our use. I like the reverb. It’s kind of handy to have.
Granted - it’s just a bit of chat we’re looking for though.
But yeah, I suppose if it was a free buffet you would have no problem taking a bit of pizza to try…. even if someone else said it wasn’t that good.
I can understand the question @robosardine ….bringing up the topic just to gauge how the community feels but @Edward_Alexander makes a good point within the overall discussion. I watched the STR discussing these and I think his feelings were that when it comes to some of these Apple devices we probably have better options already. While I think that’s true some times it’s the ugliest, simple, least suspecting device that can be just the sound you’re looking for and I feel like some of these will definitely fall into that category. Just gotta try them out. 👍
I’d hate for someone to miss out on possibly the best pizza of their life just because I didn’t like the slice I had.
Definitely the NewPitch AU effect is awesome. Its my preferreed pitch effect. The Distortion AU is wild.
