A Complete Unknown
We just got back from seeing the Bob Dylan biopic. It was really good. I’d rate it a 7, maybe an 8. My wife loved it. She was singing along and making quite a scene. She was not alone! I’m not a big Dylan fan, but he has a few songs that I like a lot. Lay lady lay, Everybody must get stoned, Highway 61, to name a few.
Chicago had Steve Goodman. He was our Bob Dylan. Saw him several times. My favorite show was at the Egyptian Theater in DeKalb. The PA system broke down, so he stood at the edge of the stage and sang “as loud as I can “. What a guy! Sadly, he passed at the early age of 38.
Here are a couple of my favorites…
This is a local classic. It helps to know a little about Chicago politics.

“City of New Orleans” by Steve Goodman is my favorite train song.
Arlo Guthrey had the hit with it but Steve’s rendering was gold.
Ladies and gentlemen… Steve Goodman!
What a great flat picker… so much motion in his basslines and counter Melodies. For singer songwriters it’s perfect to make the music sound full and interesting.
In the 90’s a folk loving friend introduced me to the songs and guitar perfection of Richard Shindell:
And the best Post Apocalyptic Campfire song with some wonderful guitar work:
Especially liked his tapping technique in Careless. I loved listening to folk music years ago. Somewhere along the line I got redirected. Enjoyed these very much. Thanks for posting.
Some excellent music here that I was completely unaware of… thanks for posting Paul & @McD .
