Best iPhone plugins for Ambient in 2025?

So I'm actually looking for reverb apps, delay apps and synth apps I may have but am unaware of or apps I may not have yet so I can produce a couple pieces of Ambient on my iPhone. 😅 I'm also trying to get my friend @Fear2Stop (who is an iPhone-only producer) to join me down the Ambient rabbit hole.

Which iPhone apps would you consider best for Ambient in 2025? Here's what I'm aware of at this time...

Reverbs
-Stratosphere Cloud Reverb
-Bleass Reverb and Shimmer
-TB Reverb
-Velvet Machine (can sort of be used as a reverb in its own way).
-FAC Alteza

Delays
-Bleass Delay

Synths
-TB Flowtone
-TB Lowtone
-Bleass' Synths (as well as SampleWiz 2)
-Buttersynth
-Solderbox

What I'm seeking are "modulation monster" synths like Twin 3 that are easy for my brain to grok, delay apps as good as Timeless 3 and Other Desert Cities, and any nice reverbs geared for Ambient I may have missed (Pro-R2 isn't available on iPhone, but I find myself reaching for Stratosphere Cloud Reverb more often these days).

Bottom line - looking for any recommendations to consider (even if I already purchased the plugin and may have forgotten about it).

(Disclaimer - I don't have GAS. Just looking to expand my Ambient toolbox just a little bit.)

  • Don't forget about Rymdigare and Kosmonaut

Rymdigare! I miss that plugin! Kosmonaut? Looking that up right now!

Edit: I got Kosmonaut! Can't wait to give that a go.

Nice! I actually bought that before and forgot about it. 😅 Just redownloaded to my iPhone and iPad.

  • It really depends on what you want to do…but here’s my favorites you didn’t list:

    • Blackhole
    • Tera Pro
    • Synthmaster One
    • RingsFX
    • MF 104 delay
    • YaleD
    • Spacefields
    • GlitchScaper

    And so on.

  • SynthScraper, mood, AddStation, Atoms, Nambu and his other apps, Obsidian from NanoStudio 2 is a “Modulation Monster”. Possibly Animoog Z and Qithesizer. There’s Noises, Teraverse too. Decent Sampler will take you in a rabbit hole. There’s many effects but I do like IFX Rack which you can get a taste of in Pure Synth. You can modulate those effects in Pure Synth too which is another good one for ambient creativity. I like SumFx because it has Lfo that you can modulate with the multiple effects.

  • Also, I just want iWavestation to be AUV3.

  • So many excellent suggestions. I did produce a piece of Ambient on iPhone. I found Flowtones to be my favourite "modulation monster" synth. It's a little like Twin 3 in a few ways and a decent alternative if stuck on iPhone or can't afford Twin 3.

But that said, back to iPad. However, I'm still going to consider these other apps suggested. Thanks again, my friends. :)

  • Spacecraft

  • I’ve had a lot of success with Helsinki from Gadget 2, and the free Spectrum effect from the Spectrum Synthesizer bundle, combined with Blackhole reverb.

Great job on the ambient piece. Heard it before the new year but I’ve been a bit preoccupied with stuff.

  • I’d like to suggest that one thing that a lot of ambient pieces miss is a sense of rhythm. Even if very slight, it adds a sense of stability or a foundation. A trick that “good ones” seem to use a lot are gating/rhythmic lfos. I’d suggest giving Bram’s Perforator a shot. It’s nice because the gate can be amp or filter or a mix.

LFOH is also nice but the built in is amp based, even though it can send cc to a filter, etc.

Great to hear! I haven't yet bought it myself - not sure why I'm waiting. It could be that subconsciously I'm saving this tasty morsel for dessert someday.
What do you think of it so far?

  • As no one has said it yet: Sunvox? Can be used as a synth, sample player, multi-effect unit, midi controller etc, all without having to touch the tracker (the thing that scares most people away).

Redownloaded. :) I never got into SpaceCraft yet, but now I plan to.

Amp based isn't the worst thing in the world, but then again I use Flux Mini 2 and Flux Pro for many of my needs (more the Mini 2 though).

Yeah, I love adding rhythmic elements to my Ambient pieces. Sometimes subtle, sometimes not so much, lol. All depending on my mood at the moment. 😂

Kosmonaut makes my brain hurt a little, but then again I'm impatient lately. I will learn Kosmonaut eventually, or maybe even today now that I finished my latest piece of Ambient (3-act structure, and use Waldorf Microwave which is bomb af).

Oh, the tracker doesn't scare me away any, lol. I want to learn to use the tracker section in SunVox someday. Not this month though. Then again, I forgot SunVox can be used as AUv3. That's pretty dope, and I'll give it a shot during one of these Jamuary days.

Back in the past I made a setup in sunvox where I just kept it running and processing my phone's mic input. That was the real generative ambient setup at the office

    Gonna recreate something like that

That is actually a cool idea that I can do in AUM to be honest. :) Something a bit more experimental. Next time I go to the coffee shop, I'll do just that.
