JAX piano?

Comments

  • Tough question. They're all good and all have a little bit different character. It's hard to say which any particular person would prefer. I'd say read the descriptions and then just pick the one that interests you the most.

My own preference would mean nothing as I know nothing meaningful about pianos.

  • Thanks @wim - never seen these before so was interested. I was looking for an Oscar peterson old Jazz type tone. I wonder if these JAX pianos have sympatheitc resonance? Thats quite important when using the sustain pedal etc.

I will try and dig deeper

  • I never see this developer talked about much, is there a reason?

    Yes.

  • hmm so what is this reason i wonder???

  • I was all in on these pianos when they were being released, but they're huge system hogs and IMHO completely surpassed by Pianoteq.

I can appreciate what the dev was going for sound/response wise but overall I'd say spend a bit more and get something you'll enjoy using every time.

Discussing even the slightest criticism of their apps resulted in, at best, ridiculous rants against the customer or reviewer. At worst, it resulted in threat of legal action against the owner of this forum. I don’t know if there was any substance to those threats but at that point I just didn’t bother.

  • These pianos have a concert venue sound IMHO which tends to NOT be ideal for intimate jazz piano.

The list of developers that have requested recommendations for a lawyer to sue this forum is a pretty short list.

I do miss interactions with this developer because the audio processing (DSP) is generally very good. The JAX Filter Collection is without peer for example.

Open another thread to discuss great jazz piano apps. Salamander Piano is a free SF2 download that wins awards. Numa Player is free and has good pianos and other sound packs too. It’s free because the developer sells MIDI controllers and wants you to need one.

  • All good - will probably pass on these this time unless there is a sale. Did get some of the cheaper effects plugins though and will enjoy my Pianoteq :)
Thanks for the replies all :)
