AudioBus 2 ...
As AudioBus is not with us anymore, I did dig out AudioBus 2.
But sadly, it shows problems:
Comments
hmm, does this just happen when opening the app? because it doesn't show these messages for me
maybe just restart your device?
I just touch above the message and it goes away. Works for me.
Why are you saying Audiobus is not with us anymore?
As for Audiobus 2, have you checked in Settings > Audiobus 2 to be sure that Network permissions are granted? That and Microphone permissions are necessary.
oh ...
Developer has lost their mind and is locked up somewhere?
It's somewhere else, not here anymore.
We all know this, it got sold - to very very suspicious people.
And your screenshot below shows how it is going ... it's dead for me already.
The community should probably have bought it.
I just wrote that it shows new problems, I never saw those messages before!
But then, I did not yet test on an iPadOS 18.x devices ...
I did not test further, as Audiobus 2 does not seem to allow MIDI Input like Audiobus 3.
Without that, I don't need it and removed it again.
And with AudioBus 3 going this route (Collected Data, Subscriptions, what ever else) I am not sure that I continue to need it.
Sad times.
Calling them "very very suspicious people" is a pretty big exaggeration in my opinion. The installed a tracker that collects anonymous usage data that may be provided to third parties for the purposes of targeted advertising. On an operating system that plainly notifies you about that fact and that gives you an opportunity to opt out.
Just about every web site that you have visited today (except this one) does the same, but with even less transparency.
Hardly sinister.
There is that. And yeh, if it wasn't dead to me before, it is now.
But still. Trying to make a buck isn't exactly sinister.
I'd like to meet that guy. I have a few things out in my garage I'd love to sell him. 😉
The number of people using Audiobus now is very small anyway, it seems, at least according to some polling I did on YouTube, and also based on all the video evidence here on the forum, where people rarely show or mention Audiobus any more. It was groundbreaking, but times have changed, let’s move on. If people want to support Micheal, they can buy Loopy Pro. If they want ways to use apps together, and no longer wish to use Audiobus, for whatever reasons, there are many, many other options available: Logic, AUM, Loopy Pro, Cubasis, etc.
Audiobus still has its uses. Not worth a subscription IMO. But I don't see that as a reason to tell people they should move on. People can make up their own minds.
I'm not clear whether existing owners are subject to the subscription or if they're grandfathered in. If they are forced to subscription we'll hear the screaming loud and clear, and it'll be justified.
I had already offloaded it with the tracker addition and am now deleting it (but have an iMazing backup from before the sale). So I won't be finding out on my own.
Not surprising. AB2 is ancient and there have been changes to the OS and permissions > @Gavinski said:
It would not surprise me if the number of Audiobus users is significantly less than the number of AUM users, but you can’t make a realistic appraisal from a YouTube poll of your subscribers. Or even from polls in threads here on the forum here.
I don’t know if there are many, many options. There might not be any depending on device and sensible workflow.
Often see sweeping statements like this, prob not helpful to suggest people buy new apps, learn new workflows and move over all their projects as if it’s not a massive pain. Everyone works in their own different way on iOS.
This comment was not really pointed at you, it was more a comment on Audiobus in general and the recent drama about the app. I get your point entirely and I agree, I'm certainly not trying to make anyone change their workflow and I recognize that this is a problem for you and perhaps others, so - apologies if that came across wrong.
No worries, knew it wasn’t pointed at anyone , was intended as more a general point/response about the myriad ways we all use iOS ✌🏻
The most immediate substitutes I know are AUM and ApeMatrix
AB3 won't worry me too much. The new version requires ios13. I'm stuck on 12 and don't auto update anyway
AUM is a great substitute now with full screen AUv3 support. I think most Audiobus users would benefit from switching to AUM, just a personal opinion of course 🤷
I'm an Audiobus lover, but yep... whenever I need lately I just run AUM and sometimes ApeMatrix for some routing experimentations. AB is here only for those rare occasions where I want to run some specific apps
Loopy Pro is a great substitute for Audiobus — even if you don’t do looping or recording at all. (Loopy can do linear recording, btw — ). Loopy’s mixer is more capable than Audiobus’ and will be even more capable since on.
Also true, definitely
Hm. Samplr can’t be run on an insert in AUM if you want to use it with live audio.
Are there other apps who rely on Audiobus for this functionality?
That's unlikely - if not Loopy Pro added support for IAA / AudioBus Apps.
I use AudioBus for the IAA / AudioBus state saving, which allows to reload and SHARE whole projects with lots of Apps automatically.
Did Loopy Pro add such feature?
I might have some backup with an older AudioBus version.
But the problem is that you need to skip updates for the App ... which can be difficult over the time.
Loopy Pro supports IAA apps. It doesn’t support non-IAA Audiobus apps, though. But neither AUM nor other alternatives, either. I was mentioning in the context of the other alternatives that were mentioned.
Thanks, I was not aware of that. May have confused with nanostudio 2.
Anyways, the project restore and sharing can be reproduced with Loopy Pro?
That would be great.
Loopy Pro does not have Audiobus state-saving. That is unique to Audiobus.
I was fearing that.
Thank you!
If only Apple would allow to remove Apps from updates.
Audioshare IAA hosting is the thang
(just joking for nowadays. But it was pretty damn useful in the past)
It's too late now, but if you make app backups to a Mac or PC using iMazing before they're updated, you can revert to those saved versions. But only on devices signed in with the same Apple ID under which the backup was made. The free version of iMazing is enough for this functionality.
That's no help for you now, but might be something to consider for other apps, especially any others this company has acquired, as they could end up going the same route soon.
