Can Loopy perform same function as Audiobus in Xequence workflow?

As title says. Only interested in midi clock. No looping etc. So far can’t even get Loopy and X2 to sync 😂. Is this set up possible? Here’s how it looks in AB…
Thanks in advance

Yes, Loopy Pro can do that… it looks like you are using Link rather than midi clock—which Loopy Pro can also do.

Can you show the Loopy Pro setup that isn’t working?

In Xequence, direct the midi to Loopy Pro’s virtual midi ports. In Loopy Pro , route virtual midi in to your synths.

  • I'm currently not sure about the exact steps to do it, but you should use MIDI Sync, not Ableton Link, to sync Loopy to Xequence, as this will give you "full" sync including absolute song position.

  • Thanks for reply.
    Xequence connection I’m fine with.
Synths are hosted in AUM. I can post a snip of loopy project so far but it’s absolute nonsense and only demonstrates I don’t know what I’m doing. Sorry, absolute Loopy beginner, have looked at tutorials but can’t find anything related to this…

Out f curiosity, why not host the synths in loopy pro?

  • @Zerozerozero : we need to also see your AUM midi matrix.

When the transport is running do the meters on the virtual midi in channels light up?

Use a midi monitor AU like ShowMidi to see if midi is being received

  • Not hosting in Loopy as It doesn’t support multi out.
Virtual midi lights up with transport running. Out of curiosity I can’t get Xequence to start running when I press play in Loopy. Maybe it doesn’t have that functionality?

To sync Xequence and Loopy Pro, it's best to use Xequence as the master and Loopy Pro as the slave (if it can sync to MIDI Sync, which I think it can).

I don't have Loopy Pro, but the gist of it is: You need to set up a "dummy" instrument in Xequence, whose sole purpose is to send MIDI Sync to Loopy Pro.

i.e., you would tap "Select MIDI Destination" in the instrument settings and select Loopy Pro as the destination. Then, you would enable "MIDI Sync" and set it to "Absolute".

In Loopy Pro, you would have to enable syncing to MIDI Sync (many apps ambiguously call it "MIDI Clock"). I'm not sure if / how this is done in Loopy Pro.

But once you've set that up, you can tap Start/Stop or move the song pointer in Xequence, and Loopy Pro should follow along.

In AUM, try routing from its destination to your synth rather than from Loopy Pro.

In Loopy Pro , you are sending MIDI to AUM’s virtual midi port but in AUM you haven’t routed that port to anything.

When you send MIDI to AUM’s virtual input port , it arrives at AUM’s Destination port not the Loopy Pro port.

  • Yes, connections are understandably different in this arrangement. Was naively hoping it would be identical to Audiobus setup 😂
Thanks for your help @SevenSystems and @espiegel123
Have got things working in a basic way. Need to build a busier project and test timing tomorrow.
    Many thanks 🙏🏻

Out of curiosity, why are you passing the MIDI through Loopy Pro rather than sending to AUM directly from Xequence?

  • The timing is off if using only X2 and AUM. Needs midi clock/link whatever it’s called.
If AUM had clock or Loopy had multi out then I could lose one or the other.
    Lengthy discussion about it here
