A Time to Reflect - Jazzy Improv

Inspired by some fellow iOS musicians, I decided to drop the bpm to 30 and have a go at some Jazzy Improv using Geo Tenor Sax in GeoShred over a progression and created by ChordJam playing Ravenscroft Piano and Violins in Iconica, Riffer playing a SWAM Double Bass and a little Jazz Drummer.

Really enjoyed listening, although the title Jazzy Improv didn’t really fit what I heard imo. I didn’t find the drums and bass to have the feeling I was expecting from something ‘Jazzy’. That’s not to say I didn’t like it’s more tight almost slow rock feel, as I did. I personally would have played more into the tighter more drum machine like feel with some more light electronic sounds in the background. I also felt that your played solo needs more air to breath - I think some little breaks here and there would work better. Or, maybe it was just the title and my own biases that made me think that way.

Just a few personal thoughts. I can definitely imagine a more electronic / jazzy feel merger piece being the direction I think you should take this if you play with it more. I did enjoy listening as it is though, so just my own thoughts :)

Just to add that I agree with someone on your YouTube where they call it noir. Definitely has a more Noir Film feel to me. Now imagining some rainy streets and distanced reverb sounds in the background…..

  • Cheers @Fruitbat1919 and thanks for your insightful comments. I agree on reflection (pun intended!) that it doesn't sound like jazz in the traditional sense but it was more an experiment using a low bpm and the Jazz drummer and Riffer parts are very sparse because of that. Point taken about the phrasing in the solo as well. Again probably not used to playing against such a low bpm so rushing it a bit!
