Dark Ambient Smooth Jazz

I remixed this several different ways and settled on this one. I called it the Dark Ambient Smooth Jazz version. I mixed it so the acoustic bass and trumpets cut through while everything in between is a bit ambiguous. Near the end there is a short trumpet improv. I created it with Session Band Jazz 2. The only constraints were that it be 8 measures long at 80 bpm. The chord changes were completely random. The idea was to bring in a trumpet player and have him lay down 8 random bars without hearing the rest of the band, and just see what happens.

Thank you! Hope your new year is going well. I played trumpet in my high school concert band, but gave it up decades ago. The horn parts are from a few different sources. One came from a Blocs Wave sound pack. Another was Piano Motifs playing a trumpet-like patch in a synth. I think it might have been iM1. The little improv used Session Band. That is a really useful app if you want to add some fairly realistic sounding horns. They hire some top notch players and create hundreds of short riffs over a wide variety of chords. You can then mix and match to your hearts content. I use AUM to route them into Cubasis. I can spend hours playing around with it. Have a good one, bro!

  • I really really dig the atmospherics on this.
(Still looking for that alleged DL button😩😂)

  • This is a cool piece, @Paulieworld! I really like the style a lot. Extra points for using a trumpet lick, you really made it fit the ambient song great too. Cool pic of Satchmo!

Thank you Mr. B! I enabled downloads if you would like to play around with it. Just click the three little dots. I think it’s called an ellipsis. It’s going to be really cold in Chicago over the next few days. Stay warm!

Thanks, bro. The trumpet bit was sort of inspired by Lester Bowie one night at Jazz Showcase. He was spinning in a circle on his heel like a Leslie speaker. I think he was with Jack DeJohnette that night.

I thought that picture of Louis was cool, although he probably would have never played anything like this. Then again, maybe he would. Thanks for listening. I’m off to bed.

We will! BTW thank you! The download finally worked for me this time👍. Just don’t tell me that you can’t wait to hear what i do with it, other wise I’ll start gagging and dry heaving from the pressure.

Just have fun. No pressure. We’re going for sushi tomorrow. I can’t wait for that!

  • Enjoy. Savor every bite my friend. I LOVE sushi. Coincidentally, me and my wife were talking about sushi on the car ride back from her brother’s surprise 40th B-Day party today. Whenever i crave sushi but can’t have it, i visualize myself sniffing the raw fish. Man the placebo effect can be strong at times!

  • @Blipsford_Baubie Our favorite is Oishi Sushi in Willowbrook. We have gotten to know the owner, Charlie. He is a really hard working guy and is always there running his business like a fine Swiss watch, making sure that everything is just right. If you are ever in the area, give us a call. You will enjoy!

  • Love the sounds. I also like random.

I tried several versions of that random muted trumpet and just randomly selected this one. They all sounded pretty much the same. Hope you are having better weather than here. It’s minus 7 degrees this morning. They’re calling it a Polar Vortex. Yikes! Thanks for listening. Have a great day. Stay warm.

Ha; we're deep in the vortex; I'm in Minnesota and it was -20 last night.
One thing I've been getting into lately are more of the SWAM instruments including the trumpet so I'm finally getting back into actually playing and improvising. I like hearing those sounds. I still like constructing a track with various apps but then improvising on top of it. I've never played a trumpet but now I feel almost like I am.

That’s some serious cold. I’ve found that after 10 below, it all feels pretty much the same. When I was growing up we didn’t have the “wind chill” fear factor. Mom just said… it’s bitter cold. She would bundle me up like that kid in Christmas Story and send me off to school. Somehow we survived.

I would love to venture into the SWAM libraries, but I promised my significant other that I would stop buying so many apps. She just bought a full length fur coat… on my dime. I must admit, it looks great on her. Love makes you do weird things. That sounds like a song title.

I completely understand what you’re saying. I also don’t play sax, English horn, bagpipes, or Celtic Harp, but I like how they sound in my music. Have fun!
