Coconut butter redo - the hopefully original bossa nova (work in progress)

Started re-doing the ‘coconut butter’ bossa nova I made in the early 1990’s and posted here a few years ago. I think the melody is original, but I’ve played so many bossas over the years I now wonder if I’ve borrowed parts of another bossa without realizing it. There are many very smart ears at this forum, does anyone here recognize this melody at all?

This was recorded in AUM. Drums are from ukulele SessionBand. Bass if from sampletank. Pianoteq piano, flute is from thumbjam. Other synth sounds from Korg iM1.

This recording is just of the melody. Will expand on it, add solo, etc.

  • Outstanding! I like your choice of instruments. Session Band always provides some great rhythmic support. I love ThumbJam. The interface is a joy to work with. iM1 is another favorite. So many great sounds to choose from. Is it AUv3 yet? I always use it as IAA. It would be great to have multiple instances. Looking forward to the next version.

The melody sounds original to me. I wish music like this would make a comeback. It’s catchy and makes you smile.

Thanks @Paulieworld. Yes, iM1 went AUv3! Works well. I wish sampletank was too. It’s a pain as IAA because I can’t seem to turn it off from recognizing my midi controller when recording other instruments in AUM, so when I’m playing another instrument in AUM I have to also hear sampletank being played with it. But I love the jazz bass in sampletank (Upright bass+slides IAP), so I put up with it. If anyone knows how to turn on/off sampletank midi controller connection please let me know…

Thanks. I just updated. Years ago I played bass in a Ukrainian/American band called Akyla, and our keyboard player used an M1. Occasionally he would step out front to sing and I would play his M1. That band broke up and Vicky and John hooked up with Vesely Chasy and had a cameo in My Life with Michael Keaton. Ukrainian weddings were a blast! They were all like this. Good times!

This is one of my faves. VC studio version was great, but we nailed it live.

  • Sounds great!!

Hey @Paulieworld, those videos are neat. Great music video! Sounds pro.

What a wedding. I played a wedding gig once sort of like that first video, it was a wild party. I finally left at 1 or 2 am, before I got on the elevator I turned around for a last look and saw old lady still dancing ontop a table, couldn’t believe the celebration energy.

    And thanks for listening @Uprightmusic.

Well, I think I’ve finished the little coconut song. Decided to speed it up a tad. Here’s the finished version (for now)…
