Mixbox iOS - does a desktop purchase transfer to the ipad app? IK sale 60 % atm
Does anyone know if I purchase full Mixbox on their site does that desktop license mean my iOS Mixbox will unlock the full iap (if I use the same ik account iOS Mixbox is registered with)?
I’ve been waiting for a Mixbox sale for about a year and a half, I remember it going less than half price when it wasn’t in the form of in app full purchases. Now, you have to pay 80 quid for the full app via in app purchase but it NEVER goes on sale. It used to every few months. There’s a 60 percent discount on it on desktop but I have absolutely no clue if that unlocks the app full iap.
I’ve seen conflicting stuff on their site and here about this - the ik site (which is an utter horror show of marketing nonsense and obsolete or useless info) says in the faq that almost none of their apps transfer if you buy on one platform. But the faq also talks about iOS 15 so I don’t think that corner of the labyrinth has been looked at in a while
Ik have to be the most over marketed company in music. They really need to cut down their marketing staff as it’s just 90 percent off putting gloss and glare and they actually have a couple of good products beneath that.
I spoke to Modartt about a piankteq sale and was told they can’t do that as Apple dictate the price. That’s not true is it? I mean, I remember them selling it for a sale price on launch
Comments
Pretty sure MixBox for iOS would be a separate purchase.
That’s weird if Mozart said that, as it is not true and I’m use they know that. I also don’t see why they would lie about that though, they’re reputable, so I wonder if something got lost in translation somewhere.
Thanks, yeah I think a bit of that a bit of deflection. I asked about sales and if one was likely and was told verbatim “the AppStore prices are charged by Apple.” Before going on to the desktop stuff..
Thanks though, I almost bought Mixbox desktop. Both of these companies really need to have a sale though, Mixbox was always on sale, 80 down to 20 or 40 but has remained at 80 for a year and a half or so since going iap. And pianoteq has been the same since the launch sale. If modartt do Black Friday and summer sales as I was told then why not the app? I didn’t think to look on their site at licenses during Black Friday
Ohhhh, hang on. It's very simple - Pianoteq app is free and all the IAPs are cross platform (at least if you buy on their website, I'm not sure what happens if you buy in the app). Point is, you don't have to buy the pianoteq IAPs in the app. Just buy them on the website when they have desktop sales, and then you can definitely use them in both the iOS app and the desktop plugin. You'll find FAQs about all this on Modartt's website
Yeah, I realise the licenses are cross platform and he was speaking about that. There’s a little bit I don’t think it would be right for me to mention here, so I can’t really expand - just my circumstances are quite particular, which I told them. I just don’t understand (even if you can buy during sales on their site) why they don’t put the iaps on sale at the same time. I’m not annoyed or anything but it did cause me to miss those sales which are much more affordable as I didn’t think it would be different on their site.
for me iOS and desktop MixBox were two separate purchases.
i was waiting for good discount for some (not very long) while.
anyway, it's worth every cent.
OK, but yeah, from their point of view it's not at all in their interest that people buy via the app as they would lose at least 15% on those sales already. Anyway, our chat isn't gonna change anything I'd imagine, they've clearly decided they're not doing sales inside the iOS app. Cheers
Makes sense. I’m not trying to dig them out for it, I didn’t understand that regarding their profits. He should have just said so. Just being open sorts out so many things. It’s a great app and I intend to get onto at least a stage license whenever there’s a sale.
Thanks that’s very helpful to know.
Indeed, if that's the reason he should have said that. Maybe it's not! But it seems highly likely. All the best
Just bumping this to say that I think it’s probable ik multimedia are no longer doing iOS sales of any sort.
Their cs is as always hiding in anonymity (doesn’t produce a name) and extremely evasive. It took several emails to get a non generalised reply, they refused to get a manager and when I pushed on their policy on iOS gave this cultural revolution response and blocked the conv:
“Thanks for your patience while we got back to you.
We do not have a specific policy and is up to the discretion of our marketing department. We have no information beyond that.
This ticket will now close. Have a nice day!
We hope this response has sufficiently answered your questions. If you still have any question, interests, or concerns, please reply to this email and an agent will get back to you as soon as possible. Please make sure to reply to this email and do not open another support ticket.”
Mixbox I’ve sat on for 18 months or so checking daily. Nothing, before that it was on sale from 80 to 40 and 20 every few months, they’re a hugely over marketed company anyway imo so the change was very obvious. I looked back in app sliced - as appraven is incomplete - and similar is the case for all 41 of their apps that I could see. The last sale I could find was March 23.
Possible it’s Apple policies affecting this although the more reputable companies with less patchy histories and generally derided marketing to dev ratios go on sale regularly. I find them a revolting company personally after seeing how their reps have dealt with people online, here included (rude and dismissive), with a few very good products nowadays and a lot of dreadful ones from a few years back.
Sorry, what’s the issue you’re having?
No issue, the first line explains.
You’re frustrated that when you buy the desktop license for MixBox you don’t get the iOS license free of charge? And that you missed the original sale they had on iOS MixBox and that they haven’t had anymore sales for so long?
That sounds like reasonable developer business decisions to me rather than anything ‘repulsive’.
I’ve been critical of IK over the years too as they can move so slowly to fix longstanding concerns but I don’t think they deserve the insults you are throwing at them here.
On another note.
Mid last year I was gifted MIxBox and on route discovered that
the preset section of MixBox wasn't working properly.
A couple of users and myself emailed IK Multimedia about the issues
and the most recent update fixed the issues.
They may take their time however when they fix things they fix them.
No. Again, the very first line explains my reason for posting…
What you’re referring to initially was a polite discussion I had with another member about Modartt and pianoteq. I’ve not referred to an ‘original sale’ of mixbox. I’m also not ‘frustrated’ I missed the regular sales that were happening 18 months plus ago on that app. I’m informing people of what I say, again, in the first line of that post.
I wouldn’t describe a company as repulsive over being slow. As I said, I have witnessed quite a few interactions between their employees and forum members, here and elsewhere, and their attitude in those interactions was what prompted that description. That, and my own experiences with them, one of which I briefly related. I’m not sure why my own experience is insufficient as grounding for my opinion of them.
OK. I’ve not seen anything by their reps here or on any other forum that bad so I thought there must be more to it.
Just because I saw this morning and was a bit funny after chatting
“I had the same issue - spent over $50 irc, and their “customer support” was rude and dismissive, acting like I was asking for a free upgrade or something.
It’s the last time I ever deal with that company.
They did something similarly shady with Mixbox too - I paid over $40; then they made that version free, putting AUV3 support behind an expensive paywall. Something that used to come with my paid version that I no longer have access to.”
From a member on the syntronik thread a week or so ago I think. It’s just how they operate and treat customers ime. Once they get their money they don’t care. Short term customer base.
