Is Auria Pro currently the only DAW that has video import and playback plugin? (Guess so)

I think 4Pockets Meteor did too, but it seems to be broken in the last few iOS updates.

  • I've used this in nearly everything that i own that hosts au without any issues other than it won't open huge video files. I compress larger videos and it works.

    Wow, very interesting.
I should’ve known such a thing was available.

Auria Pro has much to recommend it, but my other DAW is much more stable.

This could be the perfect option

    Thank you @Tentype

@Tentype Great plugin, thank you for sharing your finding. I'm most interested to use it with Garageband to synchronize music to the videoclip / to score a movie. I could not find any proof it work with GB, so I just bought it, tested, and it work :)

    1. It work with Garageband (but please see issue in the brackets in point 5, also the video at the end).
    2. Video in the plugin start playing / stop along with the play / stop of the track.
    3. If the video has a sound, it is possible to mute it.
    4. PiP (Picture in Picture) also work, what is most important - to use this plugin in the intended way - we can edit the notes and check on the fly if it matches the video without switching the instruments / video windows. (to do it, the video must be loaded in the standalone plugin version also and sync with the AUv3 plugin in GB).
    5. If you play track from e.g. 00:33, the video in the plugin also start from 00:33 - when synch mode is on, it follow the timeline. However, when we move the marker on the timeline, when we are in the plugin track, the video adapts, but when we move the marker on the timeline, when we are in the instrument track, the video does not adapt, although when we click play it does. Too bad - if it worked, it would be much more convenient to synchronize notes with the image.

I found examples on developer youtube channel, but only for AUM, Cubasis3 and NanoStudio2 / and BeatMaker3 on x.com - there is more video examples and informations. No proof for all another hosts like: Garageband, Logic Pro, ApeMatrix, etc.

Besides dedicated video plugin (as IAP) to Auria Pro only, it seems that currently it is the only plugin of this type (fortunately universal) and there are no alternatives. Maybe it is possible to write a similar plugin in Mosaic Plugin Workshop, but I didn't find any on Patchstrage.

    ...

About point 5, below I publish my test in Cubasis3. The same story is in the Garageband. Maybe it's not possible to get over it in general...
    a) moving the marker on timeline on the plugin track moves the video, but only backwards, not forwards
    b) moving the marker on timeline on the instrument track unfortunately doesn't move the video either backwards or forwards

Yep, it doesn't do frame accurate scrubbing, but if you keep that in mind, don't overwhelm it with fast cursor moves, and instead give it a second to catch up, then it works quite well.

I've used it in Logic for iPad successfully a few times to score to a timeline. I prefer Reaper on desktop for this work because there's no fuss, but sometimes writing a score while on the couch is just the thing.

I haven't tried it out yet, but it's possible Davinci Resolve for iPad would let you score in the Fairlight tab? It's a huge maybe, but maybe?

Just for the completeness of this thread I will suggest the video track supported in Staffpad. Staffpad is designed for the workflow of a film composer.

It supports importing audio. Stems too and some rather sophisticated controls of the temp track to align events between audio and video. It will timestretch audio tracks with pitch changes too to make that cymbal crash align with a video crash image.

Unfortunately, Staffpad merged with Muse Group and updates have slowed and the Staffpad team is busy making MuseScore audio libraries for the Muse Score windows and Mac versions. There’s a clue that a new guitar 2 library and another is in the works.

Staffpad will get these free libraries too sometime this year. I hope a true Spanish guitar is in there. The guitar 1 library has a nice ukulele and such but nothing truly guitar like, IMHO. Nice zither sounding Charang.

Still, in has a video track feature… is it robust since it arrived in the most recent Nov. 2023 update.

Staffpad requires an official Apple Pencil since it’s primarily a notation app for composers intending to take their creations before studio session players. It has a score reader app so you can pass out parts to a group of iPad ready musicians and skip the paper. Good for last minute fixes in the studio.
