MIDI Drum Trigger
Hi,
Although I have not done this personally ..... I have been involved in recordings where there's a real person who tracks the drums, and THEN, they use the recording to trigger MIDI drums - either to enhance the kit sound, or completely modify it.
I want an an audio sound /note to trigger a MIDI message, which I'll send to a drum kit.
I "thought" FAC Evolver could do this..... it "seems" to be able to send 2 types of messages CC and MIDI note messages; maybe it can send others. I turned off the CC messages buttons (there are 2 of them), and turned on the MIDI note button..... I am still getting CC messages - I am using MIDI Monitor to "watch" the MIDI messages. I have Envolver running in LP; it's on a loop color track - where I am using the looped recording to trigger the MIDI messaging, and then it is also on a MIDI track where it is sending the MIDI messages to my MIDI Monitor.
Any thoughts? - See the pics below?
Are there any other or simpler AUV3 apps for triggering a drum kit?
Thanks!!
AJ

Hi, have you turned it off on channel 2 as well as 1?
@danimal Uh, I suppose not..... in the dropdown choices, I selected "CCxxx - OFF". I believe the dropdown allows you to select one, and only one option. I thought - which could be wrong - that this option (CCxxx-OFF) would turn off ALL CC messages of any kind/type. I have tried to select more than one option, and you can't do that.
I know somebody is going to say - use Mozaic or use a MIDI plugin to filter out the messages you don't want. C'mon - good software doesn't extra software to make it work. Less and easier is the new more.
Thanks for looking
It does look like all the CCs are on MIDI channel 2. Those B1's are on MIDI channel 2. Remember that the channel value in the message is one less than the MIDI channel number. MIDI channels 1..16 are transmitted as values 0..F.
@uncledave - as always, I appreciate your expertise.
I looked at the manual (really I did); what I want is when the volume crosses a threshold (regardless of the actual musical note that is played) then send a MIDI note message. I think this is like what is done in a studio to trigger MIDI drums.
Now, reading the manual I'm not sure. Maybe I want Gate -> MIDI, but even if I use that I cannot get Envolver to send a MIDI note message, I can only have it send CC messages.
Well, you showed you were getting note messages. Don't you just need to disable the second channel, the one you're not using, the one that's sending CC002?
@Vmusic : as uncleDave mentioned, the cc’s in your monitor are from the envelope in the right. Disable it by tapping on its label which will turn gray to show it is inactive.
YES!!! That worked
Thank you so much!!
