Moog Modular 15 DSP usage

Hi all,
Please can anyone who has the Moog Modular 15 synth app tell me if it is DSP intensive. I will be using it as AUv3 in Cubasis 3 on my 13” iPad Air M2.
Thanks in advance

  • It used to be one of those apps that just slaughtered my old Air 2, but my M1 Air handles it with no issues. Yeah, if you try and run too many instances at once without freezing then you will soon get issues, but it’s not as peeky on the meter as some apps of late!

I’ve never really taken to it as I don’t particularly like the UI, but it does sound really nice!

Thanks for the info, I did check out some YouTube videos but there isn’t really anything up to date that can indicate it’s memory usage, I mainly want to use it for it’s awesome sequencing power, more modern synth apps don’t quite have the bite like the Moog, unless there is something else on the App Store that I am unaware of that will do the same job sonically.

Here's a rough idea for you. iPad Air M1. Using AUM I’ve just put on 5 instances of Model 15 with random presets all connected to the AUM keyboard. AUM at 48khz 128 buffer size. Playing however many notes at once and sliding up and down the keyboard. No background apps or other apps running as far as I can see. AUM meter shows around 40% to 44%.

Not a scientific test by any stretch, but your M2 Air is going to handle this app easily. Moog have really worked on their apps and as far as I’ve experienced, they are all super stable and show very little spiking on the meter in any ways - by my experiences only. Some apps spike the meter even when changing presets of in many ways, but I’ve not experienced these issues with the Moog apps on modern iPads under 18.2

    Hope this helps some.

Thank you, it has provided me with everything I need to know and I am now more sure about purchasing it.

Model 15 isn't a memory hog. It's one of the higher CPU use apps out there, but not a memory hog.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to write memory usage, it should say DSP usage, I purchased the Moog Module 15 and found it to be brilliant, but also found it is DSP intensive on my 13” Air M2 in Cubasis 3 compared to Animoog Z which uses less DSP. Now I am hungry for more presets lol

My favorite preset pack is Mercurial Strategies because it's geared toward teaching how to use Model 15. Each preset has a detailed discussion of the techniques and strategy behind it.

I have all the sound packs, there are some fantastic preset in there, I just need to remember where they are if I want to use any specific one. The only on screen info I can find in the Mercurial Strategies is by tapping the icon on top right of screen which then displays a description of the preset, such as 34, HOEDOWN and the description starts off with YEE HAA!
I have used the Tutorial section at the end of the bank list, very useful and very exciting to use.
