Looking for Midi Buffer recording app
Is there an app that constantly records midi to a fixed buffer, like Ableton Move, or the skip back function of sp404mk2?
I would add it in AUM and route my stuff through it, so that when I come up with e.g. a nice melody, I have it already available in midi.
Edit: I want to press record after I played the midi, not before
Comments
Maybe Midifruzze
TakeAMidi
Loopbud
Midi Recorder
Or
Several Piano rolls will work if you just set a bunch of bars, & record
Atom 2
Helium
LK
Drambo
Etc….
Midi recorder is perfect for this.
Not "fixed buffer" though, and I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this. It captures and timestamps any Midi sent to it, and plays it back in sync.
I think someone tried to create a midi buffer in Mozaic at one point but not sure how effective it is…
I believe the OP is looking for a "retrospective record" function, so you can hit Record to capture what you just played, instead of what you're about to play. So, the app needs to continually capture the last few bars of MIDI, and stop capturing on command.
Yes exactly, something like this: https://www.birdsthings.com/midi-cap
The best app for this is LK in my opinion.
Patterns can be super long so you can record forever, you can easily select a playback range and crop what you like, and it does MIDI file import and export. Plus you can collect clips and play them either immediately or bpm-synced.
Ableton Note would be my second choice.
Logic Pro for iPad has retrospective record built-in.

Since loopy pro has an option for retrospective audio recording, I’d imagine that’s be on the list to implement when they release midi recording in the future.
