BA-1 just disappeared from Logic Pro for ipad

Hi,

I’m stumped.

I use BA-1 a lot and just after midnight tonight, I closed Logic and 10 minutes later I reopened it to find BA-1 is “not available on my iPad”.

It’s gone from the instruments list. All my projects complain with the same message.

It works in AUM and Cubasis. I tried reinstalling BA-1 and tried updating to ios 18.3.

I’ll contact baby audio but in the meantime, is there anyone else with Logic and BA-1 that could check if it works for them?

Thanks!

Glad I didn’t buy that one I reckon…pfew one of the only synths I don’t own. Will be interesting to know why that happened

You know, VirSyn's AddStation also had this problem recently and I've been dealing with the fallout for weeks. Harry Gohs (the developer) fixed the problem, but the fix didn't revert the plugin to the exact same state as it was prior to the problem. So one must manually re-add AddStation to every project which uses it. It's an ongoing problem for me.

I wonder if this is a similar issue.

  • Go to System settings and ‘Reset’ the Logic settings, that will bring back temporarily the disabled AUv3s. (this happens when a plug-in crashes frequently for one reason or the other).

  • Thanks @Samu, I am back up and running!

In recent months (ios18 or Logic 2.1 not sure which) 2 apps that have always been Rock Solid, BA-1 and Zeeon have been crashing randomly in Logic. What you’re saying checks out, I guess it crashed enough times for Logic to add it to a denylist.

After doing this (Settings - Apps - Logic Pro - Reset Logic Pro), I didn’t experience the same issue as @NeuM. The BA-1 instances all returned without having to re-add them, which was a relief because I have a habit of forgetting to save my presets (note to self, always save your presets - never rely on your daw if you can avoid it).

BA-1 then immediately crashed! After a reboot it’s working again so I’ll see what Baby Audio say.

Resetting Logic had the unfortunate consequence of killing my multi-out Oneshot (had to use the replace trick).

Every once in a while I grumble to myself that I never had these sorts of issue with Cubasis. Then I remember all the other annoyances I had over there and why I prefer Logic.

    Thanks Guys!

This affects all AUv3's that support multi-out as Logic Pro for iPad doesn't do a proper auval (Ie. check for multiple inputs/outputs, supported sample rates etc.) when it scans the AUv3s.

This is an issue Apple has to fix and when they do there will no longer be any need for the 'replace' tricks to force Logic to check for multiple inputs & outputs...

Unfortunately 2.1 update brought back a bunch of 'issues' that were fixed way back in 1.1...
...I do wonder how long we'll have to wait for a 2.2 or 2.1.1.

iPadOS18.3 fixed a few UI issues (like some plug-ins flickering/flashing when being scaled and some plug-ins scale a lot faster now than under 18.2.1)

I've stopped reporting new issues to Apple as most of the old ones still remain unfixed...

I’ve found the only way I can reliably use Logic on iPad now is to freeze any tracks I’m able to do before closing down. Unless I’m pretty positive an app will open again reliably, I add tracks to add more material with certain apps instead of unfreezing them. Certain apps I know will crash if I unfreeze them. My track counts are getting really high now lol

  • I don't have hard crashes per se, but rather often (once/day if I were to guesstimate) I have absolutely no sound from Logic. I can open other apps and they make sound, but switching to Logic it will be all silent. I can see it doing "its thing" and meters move etc, I just can't hear it. Have to close it down (all the way) and then re-open it.

I am this (holds up hand where thumb and index finger meet up) close to just getting Bitwig for my Win machine and use the iPad as a sound source instead.

I've just added a Macbook Air to my setup thinking of having my DAW on that and using my iPad as mostly a sound module in my jamming set up. To be honest it's probably better to have multiple options anyway - all eggs in one basket probably isn't the best long term plan. Especially as Apple can change direction on a dime these days lol

  • Yesterday all my approx 50 SB Drumcomputer Patterns/kits disappeared from one to the next second. poof, gone. Right in front of me and i don‘t wanted to believe what i saw. Probably an SB bug though, cause it was the internal memory, not the logic presets. I had most of my stuff stored on another ipad so i did not lose a lot. But that never happened before and if ALL were gone then it would be time to switch back to mac (again).

  • Apple and the economy cores crippling every newer model m computer is ridiculous

  • Most likely best to switch back to Cubasis. I never had an issue with disappearing plugins nor plugins forgetting their settings mid-session. Also Cubasis doesn't require a monthly/annual subscription.

  • I've thought about it but the problem for me is I would miss drum designer, pattern regions, chroma glow, the sample browser, audio routing and, well, as I type this there's far too many actually.

As someone who tinkers for a few hours, several nights a week, I'm pretty happy with it overall.

That said, having used it since launch I'm finding that as a project develops and gets bigger, I start to wonder when the next weird thing is going to go wrong. Last year I had a project that would re-freeze every frozen track at random when you hit play!

If I was good enough to do this in a more professional capacity, I'd probably be looking elsewhere but it helps me scratch that music making itch and for the most part, it's a joy to use.

I've had a crash on startup bug in Logic on the Mac too, with the latest update.

Deleting prefs files usually works but didn't this time, however deleting the app and re-installing fixed it. I've had no issues since. It might be worth a shot.

Logic Pro definitely has its many strengths, but for me personally the cons outweigh the pros. I'm talking full on show-stopping bugs when Logic Pro crashes, or it forgets my plugin settings (it even did this with its own built-in limiter, like what?!)

As someone who tinkers for a few hours, several nights a week, I'm pretty happy with it overall.

That's good at least. If it works for you, then awesome. ☺️

Exactly. Showstopping bugs like that. 😨 Can't say that happened to me in Logic Pro (the frozen track thing), but when I'm working on client work (or my own personal music for that matter), I can't be faffed about with trying to problem solve the most basic shit that should function properly out the gate.

If I was good enough to do this in a more professional capacity, I'd probably be looking elsewhere but it helps me scratch that music making itch and for the most part, it's a joy to use.

Again, if it works for you, that's awesome. For me personally, I need things to just...work. 😂 Being neurodivergent, it's easy for my mind to get stuck in mental loops when working with less-than-stellar software. "Will it crash this time? Will it forget my plugin settings, forcing me to reload the plugin and try to remember what I had the knobs and sliders set to? Oh god, now there's a new problem to deal with?" Etc. Ymmv. 🫠

Thanks for the info, so this is obviously a Logic bug and not a rogue AUv3 as I first thought. I don't really want to delete Logic because I have gigabytes of content in there, so I'll just cross my fingers and hope Apple fix it. If it's affecting the desktop as well it's very likely that the problems will be addressed.

You should be able to delete Logic and re-install it without losing any data...

The crash on startup on the Mac was the first thing like that I've had in a long time, my guess is that a file inside the application package got corrupted during the last update or by an auv3 causing a startup crash which then ended up with it not launching at all.

Deleting and re-installing instantly fixed it and all is still good. Touch wood. I've been using Logic on the Mac for a very long time and it has been incredibly reliable for me, so the odd gremlin gets a pass for now. I won't be switching. :)
