The Gypsy (Soft Trumpet Jazz, Piano, Korg iM1, BeatHawk, SampleTank, MoodUnits)
This is an old 1940’s sentimental song called The Gypsy. I’m playing the melody on a really old and wore-out raw-brass trumpet (pictured). Tuning slides stuck, bell badly damaged, has a small air leak that gives it a breathy sound. The intonation problems of the horn is apparent, but its soft tone makes up for it.
It’s a real piano recorded, Bass is from SampleTank, Vibes are from BeatHawk, Strings and other synth sounds from Korg iM1 and Mood Units.
Tried to give the song some unusual chords to make it sound more intimate and ‘torch song’ like.

Holy bawls. Incredible!
I adore how... Nasty? The trumpet appears and is described.... With that sound emerging. Chills
Not trying to discount the skill of the musician in the least 😉
Beautiful
I took this as a tutorial on how a trumpet should sound. The imperfections are what give it real character. Not to mention your phrasing, etc. I'm going to try to apply it to my SWAM trumpet playing. Thanks!
Well put!
Seconded across the board
With an emphasis on utilizing the inspiration for bettering my swam sounds!!
What a pleasure to hear your play, @Dav! Thank you for made my Monday morning.
Thank you @PapaBPoppin, @MrStochastic and @filo01. I’m going to try and get this horn fixed up some, it would make a good jazz horn.
Thanks for listening!
Thats a very nice track in a great genre, loved it. Been binging on old B&W movies found on youtube and this so in that space.
Thank you for sharing this and i love the horn, well played
Proof again how a live track can transform an ‘in the box’ arrangement. Such a beautifully captured performance. Move over Chet Baker. Can you sing as well? More please.
Thanks for the kind words, @dblonde and @AndyHoneybone. The old 1940’s songs are so great, I don’t think they will ever disappear. Yes Andy I sing on my gigs, unless I’m specifically doing a background music for a dinning room gig, or something like that.
Absolutely love this! That horn sounds sublime. Keep it as-is. Don’t change a thing. Beautiful old song!
Beautiful and filled with richness and expression! Bravo
