App to extract sf2 from Bank

I'm checking out some banks of sf2's in GR2. Most I'd like to discard. Is there an app to unpack the banks file?

On iOS? I don't think so. On Mac? Sforzando.
[edit] whoops. Sforzando is only the player. Hang on...

    [edit 2] Found it. Polyphone.

I doubt you'll be able to alter the included sound fonts though.

  • Thanks. Seems more sfz oriented. "You can also drop SF2, DLS and acidized WAV files directly on the interface, and they will automatically get converted to SFZ 2.0, which you can then edit and tweak to your liking!"

Still hoping for something iOS but will check out the above.

I guess there is no simple trick like changing the file extension that work on an sfz file?

  • Polyphone is a free SF2 editor that can be used on the desktop to edit SF2 files.

But it won't help in the case of say GRII as the SF2 file is embedded inside the app-bundle and considering the whole app bundle is what, less than 100mb it's not even worth the hassle...

Highly likely. Hopefully it can extract the contents from the shell though.

    Nope. sfz only.

There is included content with GR2? I totally missed that. Must have to download it separately.

Huh? Polyphone edits SF2 files. I just did. You won't be able to edit the sound font embedded in the app though.

I think I remember the included sound font being named somewhere and I think it was something you could find on the net. If so then you could make a trimmed down version of your own. The included one would still be there under the factory sounds, but you could ignore that and just use your own if all you're trying to do is reduce clutter.

  • Thanks, I'll grab that now. Cheers.

Did I miss something? Are there wavetables, samples and sf2 files included in GR2?

Yes. Tap the browse button to the right of the transport control, then check Bank A.
It's easy to miss. If it wasn't for this thread I would have thought the same.

The browser is a way more convenient way to load things like samples to drum rack pads. Just tap on the pad and hit the load button at the bottom of the browser.

  • That was a light bulb moment. Thanks to you. That makes things a bit easier to get into. I was starting to build up a basic library to get started but it's already there. :)

Since you mentioned wavetables, I found a few at the site below. Seems to be legit, just very aggressive with popups.

    https://bvker.com/free-serum-wavetables/

I tried adding one from this set to GR2 and it worked. No idea how good or useful these are though vs. what’s out there since I never use wavetables but the one I tried sounded alright to me.

Doug’s video helped with this. Definitely worth a watch.

That definitely looks like something I'll be exploring, many thanks for the link.

Yep, I would say you are probably right. I don't like video but yeah, sometimes it has to be done. Thanks for the reminder.

I can’t remember the name of the app, but I’m sure there was discussion in the past about an app that you can create your own wavetables with.

  • Drambo will create wavetables from audio files you import to it. I don't think you can export them though.

  • Somewhere I came across a collection of the amazing Adventure Kid selection of single cycle waveforms, compiled into wave-tables. I've lost track of the source though.

The Adventure Kid single cycle wave forms are fun for using as oscillators in apps like Koala and Drambo's Flexi sampler. They have to be tuned down by 202 cents though to be in tune though.
