fantastic synth, get involved
@drewinnit I totally agree, it's such a great synth, the control you have is insane, you just need to dig.
Things I didn't even look at, for example, the preset management has to be one of the best on iOS.
I briefly showed the randomizer, but that is so cool.
User Oscillators are a great idea, two VCFs with flexible routing, a shed load of filter types, the list just goes on and on.
@thesoundtestroom yep - it sounds fantastic, the FX work well with the oscillators to design patches quickly without relying on external stuff. more filters than you can poke a stick at, from creamy to dirty sounds. arp/sequencer is lovely, though I do need to explore that a bit more
and as with all Paul's apps, the depth of extra/auxiliary features is insane and all built very reliably.
I just hope he exposes more AUv3 parameters in future releases!
(to be fair i can imagine his to-do list must be very long, what with the amount of apps he maintains)
How do u guys choose which synth to use with so many interesting and unique ones to use
it can be a struggle. there's a few workhorse synths that I know backwards and tend to rely on those. then a new one comes out and if it maintains interest past the novelty stage it gets added to the stable
I guess I’m just wondering since I don’t know enough about synths if this one really provides any new value from the other 20 I have.
I hadn’t paid attention to this one, but it sounds really good.
For me, the added Mac integration is the icing on the cake. I’ve added a couple of Paul’s apps to my collection recently, just for this feature, and looks like Copperhead will be joining them.
They are so cheap that you can buy one, play about with it, remember the vibe it gave you then put it into your synth hierarchy then dig it out when you think it might fit into the groove you are building. It only takes a few seconds to swap them out in AUM.
Over the wall there is the scrapyard where all the unwanted ones have been thrown to pile up and rust away. They might be pulled out and given another chance (watch out for the guard dog), but they usually end up back in there again before very long.
I'm going to cut against the grain a bit and recommend you not buy any new synths. They will always be there if you find you're missing a flavor among the ones you already have. Sales happen all the time. Explore what you have and don't feel like you're missing anything by not having another one you aren't using.
Copperhead looks great to me so I'm always tempted when the sales come around, but like you, I'm already neglecting a pile of cool synths.
Thanks for the replies. I just feel like among all the apps I try to continually justify, my synth collection is the largest and the one with the most overlap. Unless a new one can somehow read my mind I can’t imagine what sound I couldn’t possibly make with what I have and even then it’s already bloated. What I’m saying might be obvious, but just wanted to share my thought process to confirm I’m not glossing over something.
I often play around with a synth/effect until I get a feel for its scope, range and character - what kind of sounds does it excel in, what is its "sweet spot". And then when I'm working on something, I can then pick one of the synths whose sweet spot covers the kind of sound I'm after. Some synths have a broader, more generalist appear, some more specific. I tend to prefer synths that do fewer things really well, rather than loads of things quite well. But that's the point I want to get to when picking synths with something in mind.
e.g. If I want Bladerunner, Audio Damage Continua every time. Just something about it. Sure, other VA synths do fat sweeping supersaw pads but for me, that's my dark dystopian ambient go-to.
Also helps to decide with purchasing decisions ... does this new synth/effect have a sweet spot that isn't covered already? If it is already covered I might buy it if it has its own unique analog sound character for example, even if other synths have a similar sweet spot.
Of course budget comes into it too - if a new synth looks fun, but I already have that kind of sound covered, I'm more likely to pass on it, regardless of whether I have a bad attack of GAS. If so, I will then go and have a play with the existing app for that sound type, and remind myself of what it was about that app that led me to buy it, and not be always acquiring things.
Have had my eye on Copperhead for a while. I think it was @Spidericemidas who put it on my radar a while back with his enthusiastic comments and preset banks, and others more recently too, so decided to jump in
Is copperhead MPE compatible?
There is an option for enabling MPE in the settings but I havent actually had a chance to try it yet.
Thanks for this. Also didn’t realize u could change the colors and the knobs
Thanks. I have bought it so I will check when I have the time
I don't see this app in macOS apps. Does this not come with a macOS native version? Or, is it just an iOS version that he allows to be installed on macOS?
It says it’s Mac compatible in the iOS version, haven’t bought it yet as I’m chewing over a Strokes purchase, so can’t confirm - his other compatible synths do though.
Only problem in this title is that misleading "limited time", meanwhile 4pockets developer giving discount literally every single week in entire year...
Not always for Copperhead though, and rarely at 50% discount
Since the date it came out ( Dec 11 '22, but let's say 2023) got discount 43 times... You do the math...
Sorry the sale of a synth has gotten you upset - have a lovely day
