Thought that this couldn’t happen with Apple but apparently it is happening. Something to consider.

Wow! Can Apple slam the door shut or will it be shoved wider open? Could this be the end of an era? Something else that will turn into nostalgia. Remember the days when you could pick up an iPad with very little fear? I have a feeling that they will be giving this their full attention with as many resources that they can muster.
Of course it can happen. There is no such thing as a hack-proof platform.
The fact that Apple has as good a track record as they do should put to rest such alarmism over this. They learn from failures and tighten things down. Malware authors persist and find new loopholes. That's the way the world works.
No, the sky is not falling. Frozen balls of shit do fall from airplane lavatories from time to time though.
