Can you upload and share presets in the forum? I haven’t even looked at the manual or a demo video yet. Made this one last night. I find Igor’s apps easier to figure out by experimenting.

Found this NoiseSpace app to be his most intuitive yet.

I’ll delete it if this preset upload/share doesn’t work

It kinda works. The preset will show up under ‚New‘ and from there I copied it to a new Group. It’s not very intuitive but it works.

I think that if the preset had been saved in a group, it would have been exported in that form and when you imported it it would have imported the preset group, named whatever Skip had called it, with that preset in it. I haven't tried that, but that seems like how it should work, based on the manual.

I went ahead and deleted it since it’s not straight forward. It may appear in the list of an upcoming update anyway. :)

    Fwiw it’s a lovely preset!

  • Love it! Wish it had multiple outs in the AU though…

  • I may have already mentioned it in another thread, if not… you know how devs sometimes claim their apps work on macOS, but it turns out they kinda don’t actually… or they install, but generate validation errors in macOS Logic? And then you ultimately end up deleting the app from macOS because you get tired of it repeatedly failing Logic’s validation tests…

Well, I can confirm that NoiseSpace works perfectly on macOS and Logic. As does all of Igor’s other apps that come with native macOS version. No hiccups on macOS at all :)

(Mine is a Mac mini M1, so I don’t know about non-mac-silicon desktops)

  • Would you all say this is just as cryptic as his other apps? I realize each brain is different. I have a hard time with the interfaces and though his apps are some of my most favorite, I hesitate to get them anymore due to this.

I'd say this is one of his less cryptic ones. The most cryptic thing being the sequencer, but if you limited yourself to just one soundchannel and experiment with the settings, then it is relatively forward. Only thing that had me lost a bit was, that you find the controls for the LFOs by clicking at the visualization.

It is also IMO one of his best, and I say this as a huge fan! :-)

And it got a great randomizer also! It is very easy hitting "create" and get lost in sound! :-D

It's not too bad, though there are a few potential gotchas and it can be hard to remember what some knobs do due to the strange (to me) naming conventions. My video explains everything pretty clearly I hope.

  • It would be nice if when you change the type of noise in the background if it fades out the current one instead of just changing at once. Or if you could generate sequences from type to type and starts changing slowly. Maybe it could be done in the generators too but the background one would be enough for me. Amazing app!!! Anything that Igor comes out with is always a winner

This is the same problem Stellarvox has - I mention it in my walkthrough, and it's because when u make changes in that section, it's generating fresh impulse responses every time, hence the cut in sound. That part isn't really designed for live tweaking. Pity it is not algorithmic instead, but Igor says that would be too CPU intensive

  • Even tho i haven’t sat down with this app yet, i thoroughly enjoy listening to it while at work through my ear buds. I’m not trying to be funny. I listen to music, then i take breaks and listen a while to Noisespace at slightly lower volume. I work in manufacturing and have always had an affinity for manufacturing spaces. Stark, full of machines but people are seldom seen, oddly comforting. My earpod pros or whatever, have noise cancellation, but some noise still leaks through. This app complements it so well. I imagine living on a large spacecraft would sound like this for the people who maintain and monitor the systems in the back rooms.

Then having the same preset in AUM and fading in and out is the only way possible?

I guess so but I'm not even sure that the same presets would sound identical on different channels, there might be some variables making them sound slightly different, u would need to try a few I guess

+1 :) I love machine room noise and find repetitive/gently rhythmic mechanical sounds quite calming, and sometimes use it if I need to work in a noisy environment, or sometimes even for meditation. I have quite a few presets called Machine Room or Space Station Noise or similar.

btw FM Zone is also excellent for producing sounds of this type, and the randomiser comes up with an endless supply of this kind of sounds. Combine it with some small room ambient type sounds from Cascade and you're all set!

This is the easiest one to date regarding crypticness. I’m not going to say that I understand everything it’s doing… but it’s fairly easy to get a firm enough grip to reasonably control it with ease. An evening or two just experimenting and playing with it is all you need. I still haven’t even looked at the manual or watched a single demo video yet.

Would be cool with a morph function from seen to scene… kinda like SoundScaper does

That would be cool, Skip, definitely, but for the background layer he'd have to rework it so it used algorithmic reverb rather than needing to generate fresh IRs every time a knob is tweaked. But yeah, an AUv3 take on Soundscaper would be a great idea for a future Igor app.

Thanks for the FM Zone tip! I didn’t know about it, probably cause it’s not universal and i only recently got an iPad. Yes, Cascade is good👍

  • I just picked this up this morning n a whim, and I'm playing around with it -- a couple of things:

Are the sounds it can make quite varied, compared to e.g. Noinput mixer? i'm only a few minutes in, but so far the sounds seem from a limited sonic pallet, to put it vaguely.

Also, It's a little strange that presets don't save the mute state, or at least it seems counterintuitive. But I'm just getting to know the app...

*edit: note, the sounds themselves are terrific. And actually I'm starting to realize this is a pretty deep box of weirdness

The presets tend to be a little samey. You can definitely do different stuff, just need the imagination and an understanding of how the app works

  • Got a bit ambient with it just now. I think it’s a really interesting app.

That’s fantastic. Very like the Richard Skelton drone stuff I was listening to yesterday. Definitely gonna have to pick this one up.

  • I love that once you zero in on a composition, you can change some of the settings to a low level of random, and you end up with these near generative/evolving compositions.

I haven't mastered using the inputs int G1 or G1+G2 yet.. but that seems like yet another way that you can make a somewhat generative composition your own.

Ha! Thanks! It’s a weird instrument, underneath all the metallic, shortwave radio bleeps there’s a sort of organic something to it… I think someone could make a whole album just using it. It’s like noinputmixer, it’s a patch makers dream ( as long as you like random noise patches)
