Apps for Glitch Percussion?

Basically what the title says. I'm looking for apps for Glitch percussion. What I have so far...

-Fractal Bits
-Replicant 3

These are the two I know about. Just wondering what else is out there that I may already but forgot about. ;) And, not necessarily looking to make IDM (although I may want to try my hand at that soon) but rather add some glitchy percussion to Ambient. Thanks in advance. :)

EDIT: What inspired me to ask this is this video.

And damn, I wish Pigments would be ported over to iOS. Glad we got Twin 3 and Flowtones.

Comments

  • Axon 3 and Blip Box can get glitchy with the right sequencing

Probably better to focus on effects after regular drums? Replicant 3, effectrix, Looperator

  • Glitchcore I find pretty cool:
    https://apps.apple.com/de/app/glitchcore/id1499237784

I'm having lots of fun with the buffer modules and comb filter in Drambo mapped to xy-pads, too.

  • @drewinnit I got Replicant 3 and Effectrix! :) Just redownloaded the latter (since I already downloaded the former), lol. I don't yet have Looperator, but I'll save up 25 quid for the full unlock of that. (After purchasing GR-II, my app budget is rather limited, lol.)

@tyslothrop1 Holy crap! I also already have Glitchcore and redownloading! Happy days! :)

  • Good choices Jim - they’re great for glitching the hell out of loops.

  • Scatterbrain.

Its kinda like how my Eucildean drums sound ( when made un-euclidean ) with chance and retrig modules.

but dosent actually sound as good ( the app ) with euclidean drums, like you cant swing euclidean drums. You can maybe find a setting though from app which might sound ok.

Scatterbrain on regular drums sounds good though.

Might not be the glitch you need as Grooverider has good pad repeats.

It could work well still though because it also shuffles, along with repeats and repeats dont need pad input but pad input might still work well, with scatterbrain.

Theres also a good rewind type module in drambo.

    Its either recan or something.

Usually set to just drums and not synths.

    For a chorus break.

Also waveguide resonator but on the sends.

So drums stimulate the amounts per track, instead of a resonator on just a bus.

    Then bus effects.

and just blend in sounds from fractal with arps and chance. Along with replicant, scatterbrain and then grooverider pads.

Theres turnado also which will be like scatterbrain.

Better with midi controllers ( a glitch fx system )

I really like using the jAmp Bleep synth with very tight envelope and fx controls to make minimal synth percussion loops. Its randomisation means you can quickly create some dynamic variations, and you can basically just let it burble away to itself for about 5 minutes with the record activated and you’ll have endless edits…

NZ app store link, cos I’m in NZ…

Ruismaker Noir and Drum Computer are great for creating random loops. Just make you use a very short decay. Easier on Ruismaker Noir than Drum Computer.

Relic Flow makes generates lo-fi rhythms

Slice loops using a sampler and add effects or just add effects

    Eg:
Drum Computer (Generate random kit + sequence) then turn down decay on all channels on the kit page
Add gatelab with the auto generate pattern on to change things up
    Add Bleass Granulizer
Add delay with band pass and high resonance

  • +1 for Looperator … so many ways to shred and chop things up, quite apart from a ton of other things it can do.

Forgot about Ruismaker Noir! Also excellent, especially stacked.

  • This is why I love this forum! I'm rediscovering apps I previously purchased but never really used. The only one I don't have yet is Looperator, but while I save up for that, I'll be making use of the other apps and plugins. :)

Also SECTOR. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/sector/id618095247 … it is only IAA and for a time has had often an issue with synced playback in AUM where sometimes SECTOR playback would stop when taking its clock from AUM. But for beat mangling it is up there.

  • Scatterbrain, Replicant, Noir and LoopMangler in different ways cover this territory. But personally I'm waiting for upcoming UA Battalion, based on PC demo it's nearly perfect for making glitchy perc from the start. Also morphing knobs can easily convert it to FX stuff

  • Also well worth checking out - MolliLooper, Glitch Breaks, MM1, Egoist, Flux Pro, Turnado, Perforator & Koshiba.

Literally all of Alex's shit. slit, GlitchCore, GlitchStep, etc...

Cem Olcay's: Binaryhtmic (use this daily). Also. rhythm bud!

    audio things: hand clapper
    bit Maestro
    dynabits
    Relic waves

    Will post some more shortly

I've always wanted Replicant 3 but never found it to be on sale.

Great suggestion- I look at Bleep as AUTony with built in synth- highly underutilized, imo. (Bit mangler needed)

also, patterning 3 with DynaBit is absolutely satanic sounding.

Oh, Poison 202 is has a ton of percussion presets that sound incredible, again running thru my favorite bit mangler DynaBit or Binaryhtmic really gets some glitchy shit going.

What else... um, you already have audiomoderns suite right? Playbeat 3, freezer, can get a little glitchy. My most often used FX AU is ringotron, I mentioned DynaBit a lot, but ringotron is literally slapped on most everything I do.

    Really excited about Batallion

  • @craftycurate @robosardine @lazyass @ejacul337 Thanks mates. Lots to check out once I've checked in. Must...get...more sleep. 😴 😂

  • JammPro is worth a mention too. It can get very glitchy

Yeah esp if you get all the free libraries for Playbeat 3 - especially SYMMETRY: https://audiomodern.com/shop/packs/symmetry-abstract-glitch-patterns/

    Sidechained Noise Gate

Put whatever noise source you want and then sidechain a noise gate to a parallel percussive track and you are golden

So I just revisited Electribe wave and it has some really gnarly perc and automation capabilities. Runnning It thru MuseBud presently the perc and synth sounds both sound like "glitchy acid" was the vibe- they were going for.

Binarithmic running Fractal Bits with Glitch Core AU Effect is pretty gnarly. can even slut it up even more by adding Octochron or Kebarp (any arpeggiator)

alex Matheu's glitch apps are super on point. imo, he has created the best glitch generators on iOS. highly recommend his apps, GlitchStep may be my favorite, but GlitchCore is so good.

Yeah man, I appreciate that mention - I downloaded it and one of the free packs was Redskylullaby's pack called "Dead Batteries" and it made me come back to this thread. Good stuff.

The ‘Form’ pack for PB3 is also really nice for this.

+1 to this. GlitchCore is a nice tight design that takes advantage of the touch interface. Works nicely on the phone, too. Relic Flow>GlitchStep>FAC Punchlab is a fun chain for creating evolving wrecked perc atmospheres.

Just got the ipads back out.

You gonna love the setup that I video and hopefully master the instruments/setup.

Although it will actually be the most control, with use of ipads and controllers will have ever seen, in the history of ipad ( we can be proud )

It will be kinda samey ( perhaps )

    Not a bad thing though.

This is the drum ipad of 3.

Its just a kick and clap but the effects are a made delay ( a reversy sound drambo module ) that feeds to tfx echo. Waveguide rez. Reverb. Scatterbrain.

Perhaps Id incorperate some type of noise gate and that be it.

Theres actually 7 Euclidean drums plus a euclidean bass ( dagger )

    Its all you need really.

    Plus cpu.

Plus the fact that apple only has 8 colours lol.

I will still buy a drum app.

This is just for the live improv stuff.

Its actually more than 7 sounds though because each track can access 16 sounds from each drum app.

You press red track button and then press keyboard. You go through kicks.

You press green track button you got 16 snares etc.

  • This is better ( with those drum tracks ) and thats without switching through 16 sounds per track. So essentially it would sound like dropping a new kick or weird accessable sounds in fac drum that are like a volca drum etc.

Although not music id listen to ( the stuff acheived )

The setup is the ultimate jam.

You can tweak to a different rythum as you go ( euclidean )

And is weird when playing piano. Swam instruments and sample the radio as you go.
