PSA: if you opted out of Apple Intelligence after upgrading to iOS 18.3, 18.3.1 may enable it again

18.3 made Apple Intelligence and opt-out rather than opt-in feature, which I decided to disable when I upgraded a few weeks ago. I upgraded to 18.3.1 today and noticed that Apple Intelligence was enabled once again. This is PSA in case you don't want the feature enabled, and in particular in this forum since some Siri features cause compatibiility issues with sample rate adjustments.

Comments

  • When updating to 18.3, I saw a screen describing Intelligence, and offering a "Continue" button, which I hit, seeing no other option. Maybe that screen is scrollable, offering more options farther down. Need to wait for the next update to find out.

Apple has always assumed we must have made a mistake if we decline their obviously superior features. They're only saving us from ourselves.

  • @uncledave I believe that there was no other option when updating to 18.3. What I saw has apparently been confirmed by others: https://www.macrumors.com/2025/02/11/apple-intelligence-re-enabled-in-latest-updates/

  • I haven’t seen any options come up for “Apple Intelligence”, even though I’ve updated my phone to 18.3 then 18.3.1 …

Maybe it's already enabled, or maybe your device is not compatible. Also, the data takes 8 GB of storage; your device may not have the room.

Edit: See this for minimum requirements.

    IT IS INEVITABLE, etc.

Ah, that is indeed the case. Thanks. Slightly older iPhone model, so none of that particular garbage, glad to say.
