DOES SAMPLETANK iOS WORK FOR YOU ?
Hi all,
I am trying to find out if and how many people have got SampleTank in their collection and is it still playable since the first iPadOS18 was released late last year. I cannot get it to receive midi notes from inside Cubasis 3, the only way I can hear it is by playing the on screen SampleTank keyboard, but this can’t be recorded as part of a project. If your ST responds to midi notes in a project and you are updated to iOS18, I would be very interested to hear how you get it to work, but if you are having difficulties like I am, I would very much like to hear about it.
I am in contact with IK Multimedia, but they only ever ask me to try the most obvious tasks, my answers to them are always the same “sorry that does not work either”, there does not seem to be any urgency to get it fixed on their part. It is still for sale on the App Store, that proves it has not been abandoned.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

Yes working fine here.
1 open ST
2 open cubasis
3 create midi track in cubasis
4 output to ST
5 remove default piano sound from the midi track in cubasis
Records midi and plays ST just fine. Can be done same for audio recording too.
Dont you mean “Cubasis “ since they asked specifically about iOS?
Could you shout that a little louder?
@Telstar5 yes sorry my early morning typo - indeed Cubasis
Thanks for your suggestion which gave me a massive boost of enthusiasm 👍
I launched SampleTank then launched Cubasis and set the MIDI OUT to ST as you suggested and it worked, I then launched ST from the instrument browser in Cubasis and it still worked, I was able to change presets within Cubasis, I closed everything down and followed the same routine with ST followed by Cubasis but this time it won’t work anymore, tried all combinations of routing, opened different tracks, nothing 😭 I will try it again after some sleep.
@rapidfire well it initially worked so it should again?
EDIT: actually no its not supported??
Not sure what changed for you - maybe do an iPad restart to clear the ram etc etc and try again?
Otherwise you could use the good old fashioned way of 'Audiobus' and that is for sure working
AUM can though but again you have to open ST first for it to work.

Cubasis is working

And Ntrack

Good luck im sure you will crack it, just be sure to open ST first and ask cubasis to load 'inter app audio' apps not AU3 as ST is not AU3 compatible only inter-app is supported.

Thanks for the screenshots, I have only ever used ST in IAA mode.
I have AUM but I have never really used it and I’m a bit lost trying to set it up with Cubasis. I have also tried using Audiobus3 but that doesn’t work either.
Can I ask you to upload a screenshot of the MIDI ROUTING configuration in AUM, using AUM as the link between ST and Cubasis.
Thanks
AUM does not host cubasis.

So just get it working again as IAA in cubasis.
Maybe someone can better explain
Hi @rapidfire . Don't think that was the suggestion. It was just a demo that ST works as IAA with multiple hosts.
Did you force quit ST from the iOS Task Switcher before each test? Just killing the host does not terminate the IAAs, which can be left in a rogue state. And a device restart may be required to clear the decks.
Yes good point @uncledave that might be why.
Wonder what iPad and ios @rapidfire is using? Ios latest here with mini 7 - not had any need for restarts to get this running well.
I am using iPad Air 4 and a 13” iPad Air M2, both updated to OS18.3.1.

I have been able to record manually using the ST keyboard exactly how you have displayed in your screenshots, but this is not any good when it can’t play back MIDI notes, I have projects that use ST throughout the song, and because different velocities play different multi samples within a particular instrument , such as Guitars/Heavy Metal preset, low velocity produces a palm mute, high velocity produces a screaming lead, so I rely on MIDI for this main purpose.
The reason why I asked for a screenshot of AUM configuration is because in Cubasis/instrument browser/inter-app, AUM is listed- the purple audio is ST recorded manually.
Thanks for the suggestion @uncledave, when I force close Cubasis I always force close any IAA app that was used because it stays running in the background. I can’t think what went wrong, I have not done anything differently, it all changed directly after the iOS18 update.
What I wanted to know when I first wrote this topic was - has any been able to record ST using MIDI since the iOS18 update..
Thanks for the screenshots btw 🍻
@rapidfire so i think i understand your question better, and the answer here is still yes it works. I set up an instance of ST on a midi track and then used the cubasis keyboard to play and record notes and it works just fine.

Guess you would use an external midi controller/ kboard to input instead of the built in one?
Edit the velocity of the midi for your needs as described in the editor pane below:
Is this helpful at all? No AUM needed.
Unfortunately I still can’t get ST to produce any audio when using either the Cubasis keyboard or my Novation Impulse 61, only by playing the ST keyboard will it make any sound.
Thank you for your help, it is so annoying knowing that ST works on other iPads, yours included, but not either of mine, it is so strange how it stopped working only after the OS update. No wonder IK Multimedia can’t offer me a solution.
🍻
I see up-thread that you got it working and then it stopped after force-quit.
Have you completely reboot since then (with slide to power off) and restarted?
If only SampkeTank is open, can you play it with your midi controller?
It only worked on the iPad Air 4, not the Air M2.
Yes I closed everything then powered down for a few minutes before restarting the iPad Air 4.
Connecting my midi keyboard to iPad and only ST open, nothing works, only by playing the ST keyboard will it work, my grey hair has got even greyer!
Just been going through all the settings but nothing has changed!
