Sync AUM from external pulse clock?

I have an external hardware device that outputs pulse clock on a 1/4” jack. It has various PPQ output settings from 1-48.

Is it possible to sync AUM from a pulse clock via an audio interface input?

    AUM doesn't have anything to do that. The only sync it follows is Ableton Link.

  • You might be able to jury-rig something using miRack to handle the pulse, and its Ableton Link module to drive AUM. I think Drambo has ways of using pulse as well.

    See next post - this here is about MIDI sync…
    If you have LoopyPro you can load it into an AUM track and sync it from your device. Now use Ableton Link to sync AUM with the LoopyPro plugin. This might work with other plugins that allow MIDI synchronisation as well (Drambo?)

    Apologies, not good to post too early in the morning. The OP asked about pulse, not MIDI clock.
    Here is a Drambo patch I created for that purpose. I got it working reasonably well but there is sync jitter. If you want a good click/pulse to clock interface, then I can recommend a Korg SQ-1 sequencer. For a reasonable price you get an analog sequencer, a (USB) MIDI to CV interface and a sync pulse to (USB) midi adapter.
    Anyway, here is the patch:

    I assumed ‘pulse clock on a 1/4” jack’ meant some kind of audio based signal. I don’t think Loopy Pro has anything inbuilt to handle that. I think miRack and Drambo do though.

    Great that you made a patch for this idea! I have Drambo but have yet to learn it… jitter and not knowing the proper attenuation of the pulse clock output into the ADC has me apprehensive…but still simple enough to experiment with…

    I’m guessing the jitter is inherent from the ADC? I wonder how the SQ-1 makes the conversion…

    The jitter comes from the pulse onset detection: The problem is that the pulses are not ideal squares and you have to correctly identify the trigger point. My Drambo patch has this problem. I recently studied some nuclear detector circuits, and these convert the incoming pulses to a bell shaped “Gaussian” pulse that allows higher accuracy for measuring pulse height and length. I just had a look at the SQ-1 circuit diagram, and the humble sequencer uses exactly the same method. The SQ-1 circuitry is then creating two trigger signals at two different levels of the bell curve. This allows detecting the rising or falling part of the signal. All this is fed into the microcontroller to sync the sequencer or create MIDI clock. I might do some experiments with this type of pulse shaping inside the Drambo patch.
    Sorry if this has ended in a lecture - electronics enthusiast here…

    I have a Keith McMillen QuNexus that has a pedal In CV 1/2 input. Would CV or expression pedal be a better work around option for converting Pulse Clock to midi in a DAW?
