New (used) ipad help
Hi all,
Am thinking of getting a second ipad. Several reasons; eyesight is getting worse - so want a bigger screen for artwork/video stuff, need more storage, want to try touring with just two ipads and a mixer etc etc.
Anyway, I'm eyeing this up:
But I notice in the spec it says:
Is this right? I'm on OS17 on my 6th gen 2018 ipad, so it seems peculiar that this machine, from 2021 will only support up to OS 16 (?)
More questions about connectivity/apple pencil compatibility to follow....
Cheers!

According to Wikipedia it can the current OS

OK cool, thanks @espiegel123
Anyone got any thoughts/feedback on this unit? Or anything obvious spring to mind that I COULDN'T do on this, that I can on my current 6th gen 2018 unit?
Don't really understand what ipad "pro" means....but I will keep investigating.
Another question: my 6th gen 2018 is lightning port. This one is USB C, so I will need another CCK right? Think I saw in another thread that the best option will be the USB C to HDMI adapter.
Might as well ask another question while I'm at it. I have a 1st gen Apple Pencil - will it work on this? (with an adapter)
No headphone out is a massive thumbs down from me, but I understand that I can use an adapter to send audio out. Please confirm or deny this if you can. Thanks humans
Yes you can easily obtain these, it just plugs in to the usb c port and your 3.5 mm headphone cable plugs straight in to that.
Yes you can, and Apple's own version is good and cheap ($9).

The potentially more important thing is that USB C is not a proprietary connection like Lightning is, opens you up to wide world of featureful and inexpensive hubs, adapters, etc without you need to buy any Apple CCK.
The 1st gen Apple Pencil, though, won't work. The newer iPad uses a better designed pencil, esp. for charging, but you need to buy it if you want it.
Consider also buying used / refurbished directly from Apple.

+1
They have had competitive pricing and fast free shipping each time I've ordered from them. I've ordered two phones, one iPad, a CCK, and some headphone adapters over the past five years or so. Not a single issue.
That's in the US. ymmv in other countries.
Great info, thanks everyone.
Bummer about the pencil ☹️
I’m in the UK, but will see if there’s a similar refurb situation here…
Let us know if you find one please.
Will do

Ah.. ok. It’s only the newer ones they are doing.
Hey @hes - if I sold my old Apple Pencil and bought a newer one that worked with this 2021 ipad pro - would that new pencil still work on my 2018 6th gen ipad?
Just tagging a few more folks. If you've been tagged, it's because we've had positive interactions in the past, here on the forum, and because you have been helpful (or I trust your opinion!) @wim @uncledave @Gavinski @Gravitas . No obligation to say anything if you don't have an opinion either way/can't be arsed..
So yeah, any thoughts on why an ipad pro might have limitations, or any reasons you can think of why I might want to think twice about getting this used one in the link, let me know.
The lack of a headphone out is something I will just have to suck up. And the need to buy another , newer pencil is kind of annoying,...but other than that, this machine seems to tick my boxes (i.e bigger screen, more storage space, 2nd hand/refurb)
Cheers folks!
Sorry, the latest model I have is iPad 9th gen. So I have no advice to offer.
No worries. Thanks @wim
Sorry, one more question; so if I buy an ipad with a USB C port (as opposed to the lightning one on my 6th gen 2018 ipad), then will I need the Apple USB C to HDMI adapter , in order to connect my Arturia Keystep and my Digitone (via USB A) ?
