Gazing Skywards
A piece that shamelessly borrows its main themes from the superb track ‘View from the Drawbridge’ off the classic 1975 British jazz album Citadel / Room 315 by Mike Westbrook.
Please forgive me Mike 🙂
I was lucky enough to see it played live years ago with a host of great jazz players including the soloist on the album track, John Surman.
Mike and John, both in their 80s now, are still, I’m glad to say, going strong !

Lovely! Lots of unexpected, evocative chords. I’m not familiar with Mike Westbrook, but this feels like Weather Report with Miles Davis. I can picture a brooding Jaco Pastorius, off in another world.
Thanks @Paulieworld , the album Citadel / Room 315 is well worth a listen as is his earlier album Metropolis. There is some fantastic playing on both.
That was very enjoyable. Listening made my head feel warm and a bit tingly, like when a glass of red begins to take effect.
Great piece of music, and your playing brings it to life.
Cheers @Blipsford_Baubie and @MadeofWax , it’s a beautiful tune. The original (and an order of magnitude better version) is here…

Thanks for sharing what influenced you. This was something. It felt like i was transported a few times to different regions of the country and world. But since i’m one for sparse arrangements and less dynamic range, i like yours better in that regard.
I just listened to your piece again. I do love the journey on the orchestral piece though.
Thanks again!
Appreciate you giving it a listen @Blipsford_Baubie . This is another lovely track of the same album…
