JWM - Lily (Pop-Rock Instrumental done in Cubasis 3)
Client work done in Cubasis 3. She asked for something in the vein of Paramore, but instrumental (since that's what commissions I do are instrumentals). She said "It's perfect!" ❤️ I'm so proud.
And if you enjoy it, comment below! My first time producing in this genre.

Thanks mate. The electric guitars were all done with Santa Ana. ☺️
Nice work… If you would, it would be interesting to know how you are getting new clients?
Thank you so kindly.
This is my first foray into the world of "Pop-Rock". As stated above, I was inspired by Paramore.
That said, the best way to start growing your client base is offering reasonably-priced commissions to friends and family who appreciate your talents. This started in late 2022/early 2023 when my rapper friend Malleous heard me producing Lofi HipHop and wanted some beats from me. He's grandfathered in at $20 per instrumental (mostly HipHop beats).
I only used to produce EDM and Ambient, and HipHop was added in late 2022/early 2023. Now I'm at a stage where I can produce pretty much anything I set my mind to, including more "acoustic" arrangements thanks to OneShot providing great round-robins to simulate acoustic drums.
In fact, one of the drum sets is where the drums in this track came from. Although I did turn off the reverb from that drum set, because its internal reverb kept muddying the mix. 💩 And there's nothing worse than a muddy mix.
But yeah, getting back to commissions. Start with friends and family at dirt-cheap prices (say 20 quid for a track). Then raise your prices to what you think is reasonable. And then market, market, market. That part's a pain in the arse, but if you want to do this without a record label, you gotta do the "leg work" (which luckily doesn't require actual leg work like, say, 20-25 years ago where you had to burn a CD of your best works and shop around to different record labels). Thanks to social media, it's easier than ever to grow a client base. Persistence is key.
I state in all my commissions that the tracks are royalty free. I do that for a couple reasons. One - I just want to move on once I finish a track. Two - it makes it far easier on me and the client without me having to track their view counts on whatever videos/reels they may use your track for. Three - that cuts back the legal copyright headaches bullshit. Lastly - it's just a nice thing to do for the clients who are more likely to become repeat customers. 😂
At least, this is how I did and do it. Ymmv. ❤️
@jwmmakerofmusic Thanks for the detailed reply.
I can see how your interest in mastering more genres helps increase the opportunity to capture more business.
I think you’d be a good choice to create podcast themes and some matching inter-segment music segments.
Good luck monetizing your work. It’s the ultimate dream of many music makers.
Anytime mate.
One of the advantages of my Autism is I feel the need to explain things thoroughly, which I hope most people find useful. 🙏
Exactly. The more I test out and master various genres, the more I can branch out into territory I'd otherwise be unfamiliar with.
Exactly! Music for podcasts, reels, longer-form videos, inter-segment music, etc. Basically "library music", but customised and catered to the client's needs. Whatever they want, they get.
Thanks mate.
So far, it's been quite a nice profit. $270 last month (one beat for Malleous for $20, and four other tracks, where one client surprised me by paying $100 (the $50 fee, and $50 gratuity for me producing her track with a deadline of today, which I met), and the rest $50 per track).
I may be one of the only few musicians out there who use iPadOS to do client work. Others most likely are tethered to their desktops/laptops, which there's nothing wrong with, but is just more hassle than its worth to me personally with license unlocks, malware trojans and viruses, etc.
