Tonex AUV3 vanishing between sessions.

edited March 3 in Loopy Pro

Greetings friends,

Ive been experiencing this strange behavior in my loopy set where an auv3, specifically tonex, has been de-instantiating and leaving behind a blank plugin slot, not empty, but black blank box on plugin slot. (right now its only one of the instances -- black box with A)

I love using Tonex and having to reconfigure it every couple re-starts is really annoying. Anyone else experience this? Im on the most recent iOS, with most recent tonex update and most recent loopy.

You can see my other two instances of tonex from a past session but I experience them just vanishing without being able to properly reproduce when or how it is happening. I just cross my fingers every time I launch my project.

Comments

  • This has happened to me several times and it was always caused by too low Buffer duration.

  • Interesting... What buffer did you find was ok for tonex loading properly?

  • It may be related to low memory situations. I have seen it a few times with Tonex. Are you using the latest version?

If it was a question for me, I use 64 buffer at 48kHz. Occasionally, Loopy is starting with a 16 buffer, which AU units can't handle.

16 buffer is an indication that an OS bug has kicked in. There is a known OS issue that affects all audio apps and results in the OS setting the audio buffer to weird values.

Oh weird, 16 buffer isn't able to be chosen. 32 is the lowest ive seen. Is some other app setting 16 buffer and kicking tonex out? Good ol ios 18. ugh...

Does it permanently glitch the project AUV3 instance?

Yes, latest version of loopy, latest IOS and latest tonex.

If you get the blank plugin, reboot and create a new default project without saving the broken project. Reopen the last good version of the project. If the AU is still blank, I think the data is corrupt and you should replace that instance. I save all my tonex presets in loopy pro for quick access.

If you have a project with lots of AUs, that might be related. We’ve re-done some AU memory management in 2.0 and this seems much less likely to happen than in 1.x.

    W

What stability problems do you have? We haven't had many reports of stability issues. If you are experiencing issues, details would be helpful. There hasn't really been any sort of uptick in reports of issues in iOS 18 vs 17 except for an OS issue that affects all audio apps (which is the audio buffers sometimes having strange sizes and error messages when trying to set the buffer size)
