Any DAW/Sequencer that lets you edit Piano Roll note names?

If I want to sequence an AuV3 drum machine in pretty much any piano roll, I just have to remember which notes correspond to which drums (i.e. C1 = Bass Drum, D1 = Snare, etc.)

Apart from memorizing the General MIDI Drum Map (and hoping every app dev sticks to it), is there a DAW where I can e.g. edit the “F#1” piano roll key and make it say “CH”?

Something like this view in NS2 (but even this you only get if you use Slate, it’s not available for any AuV3 drums)

I’d be fine if they still looked like piano keys, and if they still had the note names, as long as I could add my little custom abbreviations.

Does anyone let you do this? 🤔

Xequence 2 does it when you switch an instrument to Drum Pads mode.

Octachron is a drum sequencer that lets you name notes and even parameters. It can be used in most DAWs and has presets for many apps and hardware.

  • Helium supports custom layouts.
