It's a great app, and nothing quite like it at that price that I know of.

My first use case for it was with Scaler 2 right after it came out. I had all of these fantastic chord progressions, and was spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to see what they sounded like in a full project with melody, chords, bass and drums, and was burning a lot of time trying to construct things. Then I realized I could just select a performance (out of the many that are included), and just feed it chords from Scaler, and bam, there was something to work with. It was like an instant song generator. So even if you don't understand it at all, it's super easy to use it as a sort of jukebox for your chord progressions.

Over time, I went through a period where I tried to learn it and it just hurt my brain, since I'm not a whiz at these types of apps, but then I realized it was just a matter of breaking it down into different pieces, and then just working with each piece, starting very simple and then building up, and it started to gel. One of the really cool tricks that I learned is that you can copy a lot of the parts from an existing performance (and there's a bunch), and paste it straight into your own project.

It's a very powerful yet also incredibly versatile app! Feed it some chords and you may be surprised what it can do.

**Edit: Removed excessive detail on copying/pasting within the app - let me know if you're interested in any detailed tips.

  • Hey . Great ideas in your post ! I just recently bought this app .only scratched the surface so far . Was going to do a deeper dive this weekend . I am really interested in the copy and paste process . I would very much appreciate a tip with this . Probably does come across lazy. I’m a weekend warrior when it comes to music production. This would be a huge time saver for me. Cheers !

You bet - here's my set of notes from watching the videos and reading some of the help. Some of the text was copied and pasted from Paul's docs and in some places I edited or added additional comments:

  • Do you need Chameleon also with Evolver ?

No - it's not required, but if you have Chameleon, it provides additional multi-layer instruments to Evolver from Chameleon without leaving the app. You can select from the included sounds, and also from Chameleon sounds from within the same sound source popup menu while in the app.

Note: The main advantage that I've found with Chameleon is that it provides a number of multi-sample instruments that work well with the app. You can import your own single samples in standard formats (wav for sure), and there's experimental support for importing SFZ files and creating your own multi-samples from those. I have not yet tried importing an SFZ, but I think I will soon.
