Change loop start point in Loopy Pro

Hey guys, sorry if this is obvious but I've been searching for the last day or two. Is it possible to change a loop start point once a loop is recorded?

There are a few ways, depending on what you're trying to do.

    • Two-finger twist on the loop to "rotate" the clip so that it stays the same but starts at a different time.
    • Swipe-up on the clip to get to the detail screen where you can adjust the start and end points to "trim" the loop.

There are also actions that you can assign to widgets to manipulate the start point. However, I need to check first if they're in the App Store version or only in the beta.

The action to rotate the start point is in the upcoming version.

  • Thanks @wim and @espiegel123, will wait for 2.0 then! I was searching for something in the same vein as Swipe-up on the clip to get to the detail screen where you can adjust the start and end points to "trim" the loop but without the trimming. Like in GR2's MIDI clip edit window.

Humm ... there's not really an equivalent to that in 2.0. The action that is coming is basically the same as the two-finger twist on a loop.

  • I will test the 2 finger then! I misunderstood @espiegel123's comment and thought it was only possible in 2.0.

It could be interesting to have something precise with the ability to zoom in for when the recording comes from something generative like jAmp Bleep. I guess the workaround is to edit it in another app and reupload the loop manually until then!

I'm hoping for an extension of the "twist" thing to the detail editor. There are a couple of related requests marked "planned" on the roadmap site. You might want to search them out and upvote.

In the meantime a companion editor such as Neon or Meow can be useful to have alongside Loopy Pro, especially if it supports AUv3 or split screen and drag and drop or copy.

(btw, GR-2's sample editor has a share button. You can copy to the clipboard and paste into Loopy Pro with it.)

You can finely trim in Loopy’s waveform editor. Have you tried? You can zoom in in the waveform editor.

The action I was talking about lets you set up a widget to rotate the clip (it can be a fine adjustment) rather than trim it.

GR-2's editor is nice in that you can easily set start and end points, or set a loop region and move it across the sample, preserving the length, and you can automate the start point. That's not something I personally need from Loopy, but I get the spirit behind the question. It's very cool and very quick.

The rotate action is going to be very nice for a lot of people once it's released. 👍🏼
(not to mention the expanded sample detail editor ❤️)

  • So I tried twisting which is cool, but unfortunately not precise enough. @espiegel123 I see what you are saying with the zooming in, but I do not want to trim a part of the loop. It would be handy to be able to move around a "loop start handle" in addition to the trim handles. Let's say I have the beats 1-2-3-4 and I want it to be 2-3-4-1 for example (and not 2-3-4).

@wim I will go and upvote, thanks for pointing out. And the clip editor in GR2 is indeed very quick and fun to use. Sometimes nudging things around result in happy little mistakes!!

Thanks to both of you for your help, as usual :)
