Put Your Records On (Acoustic Guitar)

Acoustic guitar rendition of Corrine Bailey Rae's 'Put Your Records On'. This is an unprocessed recording to test my new (old) mic, a Sony ECM-MS908C - a stereo mid-side condenser mic. It was very, very cheap and I think it sounds great (unlike my playing - a bit rusty). So if you see one, grab it. See this thread.

Taylor GS Mini (with some fake Elixir strings on - be careful guitarists!) -> Sony ECM-MS908C -> TwistedWave

  • I’d need a lot of wd-40 to get my rusty playing sound as good as this 👌

  • Thanks for listening @GeoTony, I thought this one had slipped by unnoticed.

  • @pbelgium ,
    Very nice.
    Love those sus4 chords.
    Thanks.

Yes, I'm very happy with this mic, sounds very warm and natural. I would normally do some eq (high/low pass etc.), but I don't think this needs any - the frequency range is 100hz - 15khz. Thanks for listening.

  • Nice @pbelgium sounds like the microphone did its job.

    Agreed!

  • Enjoyed listening and getting happily distracted looking up this mic on eBay and searching the Sound on Sound archives about recording acoustic guitar. Where was the mic positioned?

  • I agree with all of the above. Unprocessed is nice. Brings back pleasant memories from college days listening to my roommate playing his acoustic guitar. He was a very skilled player. I just wish I had an iPad to record some of it at the time. Beautiful playing!

This was a quick test recording, so I wasn't too careful about mic position - plus I need to get a proper stand for it. (Probably about a foot away.) I like this 3 part series on miking acoustic guitar by Neumann. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for listening, glad to bring back some good memories. It's nice to think back to the times before iDevices - reel to reel, vinyl, cassette recorders, Super 8, film cameras (with just 24 pictures), sitting by the phone waiting for that call ... good times.
