control music playback via bluetooth while teaching suggestions

Hello,
maybe not the „right“ question for the forum. But i thought i‘m more likely to get good suggestions here.
I‘m a music pedagogue and teach, among others, groups of 4 and 5 year olds. No chairs (sitting on the floor), singing, a lot of movement and dance, mostly percussion and mallet instruments. Often I’m playing music and sounds from my phone via bluetooth speakers for games and other activities. I find it suboptimal and distracting, to take out the phone during the lessons to start/stop/go to next track/etc.

I would like to have a small bluetooth device in my pocket for the basic features (start/stop/next track/maybe volume control).
Currently I am using an android phone - but could use my ipad as well, if it just needs to sit in the corner.

Do you have any suggestions how i could set this up? Would be fantastic :)

  • Hi. Check out these Satechi remotes. I have an earlier version, but I expect they work in the same way. The device emulates the top row of a Bluetooth keyboard, where the media controls are. You pair it like a keyboard (there's a hidden, tiny 10-key keypad), then use it to control any media-player app. I've used mine for years to control web video players on iPads. You can find other options if you search on-line for "presentation remote".

  • There are plenty of inexpensive Bluetooth qwerty keyboards available. Many have dedicated media control keys. Of course your music app must support control from a typing keyboard for them to work.

Be careful when searching on Amazon and other places. It's really hard to distinguish between the ones that are Bluetooth and ones that are "wireless", requiring a USB receiver.

This one is tiny it easily fits in a shirt pocket. https://a.co/d/3b643Bc
After trying different sizes and shapes, this is the one I settled on.

  • Thank you both for the recommendations. I'll look into it :).
