New tune - recorded only using donuts no DAW

here is my latest song, since the DAW has lag issues still, i decided to map out the entire song turning on and off donuts as i record live, its not simple especially if you have over 20 donuts as it gets difficult to remember which track to turn on and off next. i managed to remember each donuts position in my head and well here is the final revision, it actually makes more sense to record this way as to me it seems more intuitive and dynamic rather than setting down each track in the DAW, well done loopy for creating such a simple tool for none technical artists like myself.

    Sounds good.

Can you tell us about your lag issues? We'd love to address the issues that you are running into but need details to be able to do so.

  • Nice! Very inspiring to the rest of us Loopers. Very nice use of all the elements.

Just a thought: You can record a clips performance to the timeline sequencer. That way, if you make any mistakes you can just rearrange the clips where needed and won't have to start over.

its the same issue from my previous post few months back, in the daw at random times the track will stat playing early or late before it reaches the actual time of play. you wanted me to send you actual screen grab but my iphad is not connected to the web and tile size is too large to send

    thanks Wim
i have yet to play around with this, will this be done by just drawing out empty tracks in the DAW playing each donuts while it records automatically ?

It's simpler than that. Just start with no clips in the timeline. Long press the record button and select "Record Sequence". Then hit "Start Recording" and perform your clips as you did when recording your track. The clips will end up in the timeline sequencer just as you played them.

Can you not briefly connect to the internet and upload as unlisted to YouTube and send us a link or transfers to another device and do the same? And you could use a file sharing service to make it available.

Perhaps, you could airdrop your screen recording from the iPad to the phone from which you posted your previous videos?

We’d love to help you but don’t have the information we would need to even start — as we haven’t had similar reports and we’ve not been able to reproduce what you have shown in your videos.

i would have to record each track separately then correct? because i would need to activate each track layer to record all at once so when im playing tracks live ( turning on and off donuts ) it would record everything in the DAW and not just one layer at a time.

allright, im working on a new song, i will use the DAW this time around and screen record, i will have to keep the recording short to keep file size low, last time file size was over 300mb

[edit] Sorry, I think my use of the word "export" confused things. I should have said "Record the timeline performance to an audio file".

No. Whatever clips you trigger in the clip launcher will be added to the timeline. All of them.

In other words, if you just did what I described above during your performance of the piece you posted, what you would get is a timeline filled with the exact performance, but as clips in the timeline sequencer rather than in an audio file.

Once the clips are in the timeline, you can re-arrange if needed (if you made a mistake or wanted to change something). Then with the sequence enabled, you can change the recording mode back to "Record Audio" and end up with a recording that is run from the sequencer rather than having to perform it live.

My only niggle with recording a performance or timeline sequence to an audio file is you have to manually start and stop the transport. So, you end up with some space before and after the audio that needs editing. I wish there was an option to start and stop the audio recording with the transport.

In 2.0, there will be an action to start session recording.

ahh i see i found that option, thanks for the explanation, that would be super actually, that way i can rearrange in the timeline as needed, thanks for the tip.

i suppose that would not be an issue as i like to use soundfourge to edit the audio files fade in/out, but yes if we had more editing options right within loopy that would be great, looking forward to 2.0
