Is it possible to have effects that only apply to loops but don't apply to the Input Audio?

Can I add effects to all recorded loops while not affecting the input signal?

I want to emulate what I can do on the Boss 505, where Input and Track effects are separate, so I can have all tracks with a low pass filter while speaking into the mic without any effects on.

In Ableton I can create a Premaster track with effects to route all the tracks to, and then route the input signal going straight to the master, effectively bypassing the Premaster effects.
Is this possible in Loopy Pro?

I only see the option to create a bus channel which processes the audio in paralel and that's not what I am looking for, I want a grouped serial processing in this case.

If you put your effects on the colors rather than on the input, the signal is recorded dry.

If you want to hear the input signal with a color’s effects, there is a monitor through color option in the input channel settings that you get by tapping at the top of an hardware input channel in the mixer.

  • Okay so to low pass all the colors and not the input audio I would have to create a copy of the effect for each color and map them all to a macro I guess, right?

This uses more CPU and can get cluttered with FX real quick.

Wouldn't it be useful to add a premaster bus or the option to group colors together like it is done in Ableton (group bus for serial processing, and return bus for paralel processing)

    Thanks for the answer Espiegel!

You could use a bus . The exact feature you want doesn’t exist.

The first part is correct. If you don't use a bus for the FX then you would need an instance of the effect on each color. You would not need to create a macro. Loopy has a unique feature where you can and "clones" of an effect. They are separate instances, but their controls act in concert. Adjusting one adjusts them all.

You'd only want to do that if for some reason busses don't fit your use case.

This uses more CPU and can get cluttered with FX real quick.

With clone instances the only UI clutter is the small icons on the mixer channel. Those can be a good visual aid though when looking at the mixer.

As already mentioned, there are buses available. As many as you care to add, with selectable pre and post fader sends. The App Store version doesn't have bus-to-bus routing, but the upcoming 2.0 release will have that ability.

  • Wow that clones feature is cool!

Okay, but it would be key to be able to choose if you want to process the audio in paralel (return/send tracks) or in series (bus tracks).
For example: I want to use a high pass filter + stutter effect on all tracks except the live audio input to create a buildup.

It would really optimize CPU if there was a premaster bus or the ability to create groups to add effects to.

Do you think it can be a future implementation on the Loopy Pro App? (Maybe add to feature wish list)

    Cheers,
    Vike

  • So I just got the iPad delivered today and I found a way to process audio in series check it out!!

    1. Create a bus for your premaster FX and send desired tracks there at 100% wet Before Fader
    2. Turn down track volume 100%
    3. Add FX to Bus

There ya go! Thanks anyways guys!
