New keyboard controller from KMI, K-Board for tablets. :)
May have just found my ipad controller for keys. http://www.keithmcmillen.com/k-board/tour
Email promo says $99 at Guitar Centre, don't know where else it's available yet (i'm in the UK).
Cheers.

I'm a bit confused by this...it seems like a QuNexus with less features.
Yeah i thought of the Qunexus when i posted, does that just plug and play as well?
It could, if the MIDI channels between the device and the app being controlled were the same. Which leads me into my bigger concern which came up after I made my previous post here...I hope that KMI isn't abandoning the idea of an editor app. This product worries me that they are.

Yes, but some people might not need those extra "features" (such as CV out). It might be a good simple solution if it keeps the same quality feel that everyone seems to like about the Qunexus.
Yeah true. Frankly if this new controller does the same CC transmission that the QuNexus does, this could be enticing.
But yeah...my #1 wish for iOS is a KMI controller editor app. My QuNeo doesn't get nearly enough use 'cause I'm not interested in configuring it anywhere else but the device I'd be prominently using it.

I'm the same way. Having to edit on a different device is a drag. I'm surprised that KMI hasn't developed an app for it yet...
Wow, includes aftertouch, I'm all over this one.
@Calcutta Ah ios editor. Yeah i know what you mean, i'm between PC and ipad with my Quneo just to edit templates. On the flipside this could precede an editor cause it's aimed just at tablets; KMI will add an ios editor to create templates for all your ios apps and then you'll be able to customize for whatever setup.
It's not aimed only at tablets though. Their page promotes it just as much for use with laptops.
I've emailed KMI requesting an iOS editor back in early September. They responded that it wasn't in their plans but they'd pass along my request. keeps fingers crossed
I just don't get these 2 octave keyboards. I can get 2 octaves on my iPad screen just fine. The problem is that 3 to 4 octaves are really necessary for anything other than the most basic bass or lead parts.....forget pads.... I just don't see the value in one of these. I'm looking for a 4 octave k-board!!! :-)
a 4 octave that was as small as this but that was 2 octaves stacked would be cool, like make it twice as thick and have the second one slide out from inside.
Something like that would be just fine with me @Kobamoto. Or maybe a simple way of buying two of these devices and attaching them together without needing a powered hub. :-) I think CME's XKey series can do that, but the KMI stuff has the really nice CC controls.....
I'm guessing for 95% of people this new keyboard will be all they'll need, the added features of the Qunexus appeal to a relatively small group of people. I'm tempted to get one just to have a back up for my Qunexus.
It does look exactly like a QuNexus. Hope they do develop an app for it to do settings.
@Audiojunkie, the ability to send multiple touch sensitive CC messages via the keyboard is nice and makes for a different playing experience versus similar sized keyboards without these features (e.g. kong Nano).
@papertiger it looks solid from the videos, i think it will be hard to find a more expressive compact controller.

Mea culpa, lack of sleep. in that case i'd be looking at the Qunexus as well. I do want a simple plug and play keyboard.
Does the Qunexus have a native chord mode, is it possible to map several notes to one key?

Have you seen the Ani videos? She has two controllers, one i watched she was playing lead on the qunexus and chords on a bigger controller. nothing hugely complex but i'm not planning to do anything like that, just play some chords, lead and trigger drum pads. I could use the keys to trigger Thesys' performance controls...
I haven't seen the videos. Have you got any links?

She's using two ipads though...
Has anyone from KMI ever popped up in this forum?
Looks like a response to CME XKeys.
On the MW forum someone complained about the pressure response being inconsistent from key to key. Wonder if this was fixed in K-Board
Aha, that would explain it! Didn't know about the XKeys will have to check it out. Even has a synth based on Arctic pro, vely intelestink!
There's actually two XKeys models now - the original one and the new 37-key version. If you're looking for a poly aftertouch keyboard but don't want to spend too much, the competition is just KMI vs. CME.
37-key Qunexus would be the hotness.

I wonder if that person ever tried mapping out the pressure response key to key. I wouldn't doubt that the response is slightly different per-key. I love my XKey. I'm not an accomplished keyboard player but I can type fast. XKey's suited to folks like me. I really want their editor app to introduce the ability to save profiles. If they did that, I'd probably stop looking at other controllers entirely.
The K-board does not have channel-per-note nor poly-pressure, whereas q-nexus has it. That's the biggest miss in my mind. Several apps support channel-per-note (ThumbJam, DrumJam, PPG apps, Arctic Pro, Samplewiz, iFretless, a few others), but way more should, hint hint other devs!
@GovernorSilver said:
That would be ideal for perching on my lap and playing. I know CME make quality controllers as well and poly AT puts it right between K-Board and Qunexus, be interesting to see what the street price of the K-Board is when it hits the UK and what advantages it will have.

He did. Results posted here - includes charts and video:

Yes, it'd be nice to have a list of apps that support this functionality as well as apps that can send channel-per-note.

How is the feel of the keys? Anyway what the iPad and apps being miniaturized it stands that the controllers should be also. Especially if you're making 8bit chiptune. :P
Blimey an editor as well. I can see where you're coming from re an editor for KMIs stuff.
I like the feel of the QuNexus keys. Very playable in many situations. A huge step up from trying to play the iPad and sometimes, I prefer it to my mpk mini.
