Recording in Cubasis 3 with loops in the background
I am searching for a way to loop a specified measure of selected tracks in CB3 while I record a new track that is longer than the tracks selected to loop. The looped tracks serve as a background to improv over but the record armed track capturing the improvisation is not bound by the loop length of the tracks selected to loop in the background.
I am considering as a solution an AUV3 like Loopy Pro perhaps to handle the loops so that the CB3 armed record track length can be set independently of the background loops. This in theory would involve recording audio from the CB3 tracks to be used as background loops into the Loopy Pro AUV3 track for example.
The AUV3 Loops would playback according to their specified loop length during the tracking of the record armed CB3 improv track.
If this all makes sense does anyone have feedback to share on the feasibility of such a solution or perhaps you have a more elegant remedy.
Thanks.

Or just copy the selected tracks and paste them for the length you want to play over?
Thanks for chiming in. That is how I have done it but it feels pretty clunky as a permanent solution. Just curious what solutions others have discovered.
What you describe is how I have done it. Use a looper. It works with Midi AUs that can play loops too.
Its not clumsy, it's how it done. If you look at the end of you clip there is a top, middle and bottom dot. Drag the middle of to copy the clip asany times as needed.
The midi AUs you have tried.. are they capable of setting loop lengths independent of the host? I just started experimenting with Atom 2. It seems capable of setting loops independently but I don't quite have the hang of its functionality yet. It has a bit of a learning curve for me.
What you say is all true. Just trying to devise a method that doesn't involve track edits that may interfere with my overall song structure. The loops are just a temporary inspiration for improv. I may already have song parts on some tracks that the paste method would interfere with. Just looking for a different self contained AU looping solution if workable that's all.
