  • OMGx1000!

Never been more happy about an update!

    Relative midi
Last Touched Knob Control (My suggestion implemented!!)
Synced sampler recording for perfect loops
    Song time indicator!!
    Quick save

Can't wait to try this out!!!

    +1

  • MIDI Out is the thing I’ve been waiting on to give GR2 a try.

If I’m interpreting the description correctly, is it saying that each internal GR2 track (or Part I guess is the term here) has the option to mirror/Thru its MIDI to an output? As opposed to having to have dedicated MIDI Output tracks/parts (a la NS2)?

yup. The midi out channel defaults to the part number, but it can also be set.

I found out through the following FB group: They always get the scoop early

Nice! I don't think I'm in that group to be honest. 😂

That sounds ideal for my purposes. Thanks for the clarification! 👍

  • I need another DAW like I need a hole in my head… “Drill baby drill.” Buying and not using DAW’s is sorta of my jam.
I was hoping to break the habit but I gotta respect Jim Audio’s work since too many DAW’s I own are going into the
    abandonware category.

Which ones, mate? Thankfully Cubasis 3 and Logic Pro aren't in the abandonware category. :)

Nanostudio 2, Auria Pro, Cubasis 2 (yes I paid for 3 but don’t use it… I should), Beatmaker 2, that DAW that became
ZenBeats) and a little collection of groove boxes or clip launchers. I still fall back into the loving arms of AUM because
it covers most use cases for me. I also use StaffPad which is like a Notation driven DAW… and I back that up with Notion,
Dorico and such. Huge waste of money but hundreds of hours trying to dislodge AUM from my brain.

When Loopy Pro adds MIDI I will give it a more serious test trial because I started my retirement phase of life by buying a hardware Looping Pedal and that way of performing still impresses me for a solo performance.

UPDATE AFTER PURCHASE: The User Interface is so well designed. The sound processing engine is excellent as I expected bing a big Poisson-202 fan. I can see why the announcement thread is blowing up… this one is a “game changier (sic)”. Unlike the Drambo “out of the box” experience the provided demo projects just pull you into that EMD world which you may love but I suspect there are more use cases and I will try seeing if I can adapt to it’s potential and making music in ways that I do in AUM… seeking happy accidents that strike me as novel and closer to film score work in the classic traditions of John Williams, etc.

  • The hits just keep on coming. Even with its routing limitations, this has become the second most powerful tool in my kit, after AUM itself. Like others, I have hope that LP's new version will step onto that podium, but we'll see. Jimaudio really set a benchmark here.

I need to sell my actual Electribe.

I felt like you, having all the DAWs and a lot of grooveboxes made me wonder if it would sit in the bin unused, but thanks to my best friend generously gifting to me for my bday, it turned out to be one of the best bday gift I ever got, definitely the best digital gift I ever got. I haven’t written or recorded anything practically since last April/may….since I got GR2 last month I already wrote 4-5 songs, and I’m ACTUALLY happy with the results unlike in Cubasis where I often want to go back and fix or redo things. Nah for me, this would be my DAW if I didn’t have Cubasis 3, but this is tied with it especially with its poison and acid integration; now all I gotta do is figure out if I should get the launchpad but I don’t see the point really when I have a touch screen iPad ….a midi keyboard controller is as far as I’ll plunge (I tell myself lol)

This is ONE app that’s TOTALLY worth its price

  • @McD Jim always delivers stellar work!
For filmscore stuff Audiolayer with Xinematix samples inside GR II is great to play with.
The only thing I miss now is a Battery level meter.

I’ve played with it a bit now. Initial thoughts, mostly regarding Song Mode, as that’s what I’ve messed with so far:

    • a Tempo automation track would be cool
    • wish the ‘Playhead Cursor’ spanned all the Parts, would make it easier to see
    • the Counter doesn’t reflect the Playhead Cursor position (until you hit Play) it seems to show wherever it was at when you last hit Stop.
    • when you’re inside of a Part ‘segment’ (i.e. in the piano roll) you can’t tell where in the song you are, because you can’t access or see the Playhead Cursor (so you also can’t audition specific edits without going back out to the main song view), and as previously mentioned the Counter doesn’t give you any useable info.

Aside from those quibbles, it seems pretty usable. 👍

  • official manual is updated to current version (1.1.2), including new chapter about Launchpad integration.
(also confirming that currently only Launchpad Pro Mk3 is supported)

  • So it’s a step closer to being a legitimate DAW!

  • Looks like another Launchpad update..

  • Adding MPE to the wishlist
