ReCycle now free for Mac/PC

Reason Studios have made ReCycle available free - good news for anyone using Gadget’s Stockholm module, or any other software using REX files.

Comments

  • I waited long enough and it happened.

  • Awesome!

    I recently deleted Reason Lite...
...the only reason I had it installed was to be able to create rex-files for use with the Stockholm Gadget.

    Thanks for the Info!

(One needs to have an account in order to download it but I already had one).

  • Very nice indeed

  • Stockholm + REX files can be great song starters, good news!

Awesome! Ryan made a video for it too.

  • FYI:
ReCycle can also export an SF2 sound font containing each slice mapped to separate keys with an accompanying MIDI file that lets you re-create the original groove in any DAW.
Of course you can also use this to build drum or percussion sound fonts quickly with ReCycle.

  • I didn’t know about the sf2 export, thanks @rs2000 that might be fun for some audio I have recorded
It’s been decades since I used recycle, back then I would send the slices into my akai S1000 and load the midi in cakewalk
    Boy, I feel old…

Yeah, the older ReCycle versions even supported direct sample dump to hardware over MIDI (slooow) and SCSI (fast).
Man, how gear and software has progressed! On an iPhone!

  • They are also doing a beat competition

I thought I remember AbuDhabi able to work with Rex files, BUT THEY DONT.

    You need Stockholm for that

Logic Pro X has lost REX/RX2 compatibility on Apple Silicon.

I have a bunch of Rex files from “the old days” but alas Logic is my poison on desktop (and soon to be again on iPad). Actually really enjoyed Recycle back then in conjunction with Cubase. Might have to load the files into Recycle and see if there’s any viable way I can use them again.

  • I noticed that the AUv3 version of Stockholm doesn’t have the copy loop to track option. What are folks using instead?

Yeah that is a shame. They could have given us an export midi button at least. My workaround is to load up Stockholm in Gadget standalone and then export midi from there

  • Nice - I was hunting for a way to create Rex files for Stockholm a few months ago. This will be great!

Unfortunately only very old Logic versions support the format (Logic Pro 9 and 10.4.something.) but luckily there are other DAWs

Indeed. Well, at least it's great to have Stockholm available as an AUv3 at all, so other DAWs can make use of RX2 files now..

Just in case you didn't stumble over it yet: ReCycle can export MIDI files too.

    Ah fantastic, that simplifies things

  • I’m surprised no one has ever made an equivalent app.

There used to be one on iOS, many years ago, but it's long gone.

Haven’t tried yet, but I expect it to be straightforward to import a midi file to work with stockholm in Drambo, right?
I just found out GR2 doesn’t import midi files (at least yet) which kinda defeats the purpose of using rex files with it

Yep, just drag the MIDI file(s) to any of the clips in launcher.
