Continue playback from slices applies only to when the clip is playing when you use the clip slicer. Without the option, the playhead would jump back to where it had been. There isn’t currently an option to have hold to play let you play into the the next slice.
You could try setting the source loop up as a one shot with hold to play on, then hold down the one shot loop instead of the slicer maybe. That won't start the one shot from the current slice, it'll start it from the beginning, though.
I never tried having a one shot as the source of a slicer, and I can't try it now. It was just an idea.
To create something musical from the slicing ideally it would playthrough when held down and stop immediately when released.
Currently there are the 2 options but they are mutually exclusive for some reason..
I was able to play through the sample by activating "Continue Playback from Slices", but when I release, it continues till the end of the slice, instead of stopping.
Also, an option to adjust the slicing start of the transient detection algorythm would be very handy. Should I put these on a wish list or how can I contribute on the implementation?

Refinement of transient detection and manual adjustment are on the roadmap. You may want to find and upvote them on the roadmap.
In the meantime, you might want to make use of one of the AUv3 out there that has more sophisticated slicing behavior.

Is there a way to have "Hold to Play" & "Continue Playback From Slices" activated at the same time? That would solve my issue.
