Audio quantization

I am struggling to find the setting to quantize audio on the grid.

I see quantizing options in the menu but none of them is fitting the recorded audio to the grid. Like a hi hat going on 16th notes for example.

Sorry for all the questions, got a show coming up in 2 days and I really want to use Loopy🙏🏼

Are you talking about quantization of when a loop starts/stops recording or playing g back or audio within the loop? If the latter, Loopy doesn’t quantize audio inside a recorded loop.

That's not currently an option. There will be audio and midi quantization with version 2.0. Audio quantization isn't perfect. That's a challenging thing to do with audio. Midi quantization will work amazingly.

You can quantize pad presses in a slicer though. Settings for that are in the slicer detail.

  • I’d like to set some expectations re the upcoming 2.0’s audio quantization feature. It is very much an in-progress experimental feature that will work well with some audio but will not work well with other audio.

  • Thanks guys, I guess the key is to use MIDI in v2.0 for recording drums. Otherwise it's almost impossible to get my percussive loops well timed for dance music.

I wonder how other artists like Marc Rebillet or beatbox guys are getting such tight and timed beats on their Boss RC 505.

Do you guys know how the 505 quantizes or do they just have a perfect tempo?

  • Practice.

It’s a matter of practice. Some people may naturally have better time than others, but anyone can improve their time-sense and execution with thoughtful practice.

We are working hard on it but don’t have a timeline to share.

  • 👍 I'll try the Beta

  • As for playing well on the beat, besides being well practiced, some may be using in-ear monitors with a click track. Another idea is to use the Loopy metronome in “flash” rather than sound mode.

  • Thanks for the recommendations. My guitar loops are pretty tight but when it comes to finger drumming and getting the basic kick, snare, hat right on the beat is very hard.

Gonna keep practicing though or maybe use some sequencer for now. I've tried Groove Rider 16 and Digistix. Do you recommend any other one for sequencing one shot samples?

  • A lot of people like koala.

After trying almost all of them, Octachron has taken first place for me. It’s only midi sequencer though. Doesn’t make sound on its own, which is fine for me. Oh, and it doesn’t record live playing. When I read “sequencer” I was thinking of something just to poke notes into a grid.

Koala is great too. It’s beat quantization on live record is pretty good and comfortable. It’s also one of those apps that is worth owning for any reason at all.
