Creation section - continue the tradition

edited April 4 in General App Discussion

The Creation and collaboration section as been a big part of this forum since the beginning. People can share their music, listen to others creation and leave constructive feedback.

This section as been really slow for a couple months. So I invite the new forum members and those who have never visited to drop by. We have some amazing musician in this forum.

@richardyot as recently celebrated 10 years of creating monthly Song of the month thread. That is quite the accomplishment.

Come and visit the Creation and collaboration section and continue this great tradition of sharing music. The more participants, the more fun it is.

  • A good idea mate. :)

  • Absolutely @ecou , everybody has different ideas about music, what’s good, what’s bad, preferred genres etc etc but at the end of the day there’s no right or wrong and postings in the Creations category enrich the forum as a whole.
Posters get to air their creations in a friendly and positive environment, potentially receiving useful and informative feedback and listeners get to hear new music and may be inspired to create something new themselves.
So, to sum up… have a go !

  • Giving this a bump. Any thoughts from the long time members ?

I'm already doing my bit, anyone can join in the SOTMC threads :)

Yes. I like to listen to Creations, or as many as i can. Overall probably only a small dent,
Nevertheless, I listen and offer words of encouragement if it vibes with me. What i would like is to listen to SOTM, but i don’t cause the creations are scattered. It would be cool if all the SOTM submissions were curated at the end of the month into one SoundCloud playlist. But I realize work is involved and there’s already a lot of work going into the creations themselves. So it’s ok. Just my thoughts since you asked.
I just thought it’d be cool for people who like to listen but not want to participate.

I would say you have done more than your share. 😀

  • Due the backlash against AI by certain members of the forum I tried using the "Other Music" category for my video posts but it seems that the interest in what I do has waned so I stopped sharing things here.

When Linear Lineman and Svetlovska stopped posting regularly it felt like a lot of the life in the Creations thread was lost. I still pop in occasionally to see if there is anything new, but I don't know if it's ever going to be as good as it was.

We just need the new folk to join in.

Like any new technology some people will grumble. It was like that when Guttenberg invented the press. Not much you can do.

Here’s a trick to encourage more Creations.

    1. search the Creations page for any work with “ 0 comments” (I use Safari control F). Keep looking many pages deep.
    2. add a comment to every work without feedback.

Then the work gets yet another pass down the front page and often gains many comments.

I can recall a lot of artists that just didn’t get any feedback until I did this.

The biggest benefit is the generation of goodwill so when/if you share something all those people will be more likely to comment and help you avoid the abyss… trust me (if you don’t know), posting work and NOT hearing a peep is soul crushing.

The result of no comments makes you believe the work is not worth the time of a comment while the truth is that a creation passes past the 1st page in about 4 hours or so. So, providing that 2nd chance for comment it key and the value of the comment is given to the commenter.

Seeing the page views go to 100+ without comment really sucks. The plays on SoundCloud with no comments there is enough to make you just give up completely.

    Try it. You will benefit.

If you don’t like the music and can’t think of a positive comment… just ask the creator a question and that will
keep the work on the front page when they answer… so it goes from 0 to 2 comments in a short period of time.

Just don’t write “Interesting” which is not all that useful for an artist. Better to write “How did you get that bass line” or “What DAW are you using?”

    Good tip.

I don't think SoundCloud plays without comments should discourage you. I mostly listen to SoundCloud while driving, walking or working. So I am not going to write a comment unless it's jam dropping but it does not mean I did not enjoy.

  • We have had quite a few new poster in the creaction section with awesome music. I am bumping this again to reach more people.

  • Well, I did my duty.
