MiniDSP USBStreamer
Hi! I have a task to connect the sound streams of iPad and Macbook as much as possible. I see ADAT as the optimal solution. I have the main sound card Audiofuse Rig16 with 8 free ADAT channels. I also need 8 ADAT channels from the iPad side. But I don't want to buy large sound cards with analog in/outs, and I would like to spend minimal money. I thought I found the right solution: MiniDSP USBstreamer. Has anyone used it?
I have a few questions:
- Does it accept clock via ADAT (I wanna take main clock from my Rig16)?
- Does it save the settings after disconnecting? (you can configure it via OS X, but it is unlikely to be configured via iOS).
- How stable is it?
- What difference between USBStreamer and MCHStreamer?
Comments
The USBStreamer is EOL and being replaced with the MCHStreamer. I want to grab a MCH eventually, but haven't tried it out yet. I assume you've read the website?
Its clock Internal/External is set inversely by the connected hardware device , which works fine .
More problematic with software switching , it defaults to Internal & is easier to set software to External as not all
software can force it to switch (I have found ) .
Otherwise very reliable once synced .
Thank you! What you mean under "inversely"?
@temaniak because you will set the other device to the inverse / opposite setting -
if you want USBStreamer Internal sync , you set other device to External .
USBStreamer will be switched by other device’s setting .
Thank you. But i need, that MCHS works as slave via ADAT. As far as I understand, after reading the forums, MCHStr does not remember the setup of the clock after disconnecting and changes it to the master. When I setup it on a MacBook to slave and then connect it to iPad, it's the master again.
@temaniak yes, you need to set the other adat device to Master , once MCHS is connected , to make MCHS slave .
as I said , there is no problem with hardware devices , but some software is problematic & I end up leaving MCHS as Master .
to be specific , standalone digital mixers & adat expanders with a switch work fine ,
my issue is with a RME audio interface where the switch is in computer config software ,
& doesn’t work .
I should also mention the MCHS will need to be receiving the ADAT IN at the time of switching ,
if it doesn’t detect the adat stream it won’t switch .
Thanks. I have Arturia audiofuse 16rig as main interface, and it have software (and internal software) switch for master ADAT. I think I'll have to sell the MCHStr and buy old baby face or Audiofuse Rev 1 for IPad. Even if I can't make them as Adat slave, they have a very good clock, that can be used as master. At least RME.
