Should I get Auria...HELP Please.

Before I bite the bullet and get Auria LE..will it work with iPad 2..it says it recommends iPad 3 or later...so I don't want to waste my money..does anyone use this with Audiobus and their iPad 2... And if so what are the limitations..be as technical as you like...thanks

I would not recommend using Auria on an iPad 2. It'll shut down itself or other apps in the background so often because it apparently needs a lot of ram and the iPad 2 only has 512 megabytes of that. iPad 3 and beyond have twice as much.

  • OK thanks Sebastian
I was gonna get an iPad 4 but now Iv'e heard that iPad 5 with quad core A7 will be out in the next few months have you heard anything about this, or has anyone any news..Or is a 4 going to be good enough for a long time..

  • I use Auria on an iPad 2 with very few problems (once I learned the limitations I needed to stay within). I'm very happy with it. I'm not disagreeing with Sebastian (forbid!). You can create scenarios where it becomes unstable or you get the pops and clicks when recording. For my needs it works fine though.

  • I haven't heard anything about the specific new stats of a new iPad.

  • Same here @boone51 - it def has its limitations on an iPad 2 but if you close everything else first, only open what's needed and close when done, airplane mode, freeze tracks, turn off 64-bit mixer, and I turn on CPU Monitor so I can see where I'm at and such can help it run better. I've used iPad 2 with Auria, FabFilter Timeless 2, and the other basic ones without issue, it may slow down but if you intend on upgrading to a new iPad in few months I don't see why you couldn't get by with an iPad 2 for now.

  • Yeah..I was thinking that I could get it now anyway and at least learn about it..Most of the music work I do on iPad is fairly simple mostly for videos and tutorials and general playing around with sound...thats one reason I would only go for the LE version and may get a couple of IAP's later..I suppose its also possible to do all the work in Audiobus first with say Cubasis which I love and then ACP that mix into Auria for a final tweak using it as a Standalone, is that possible..or do some work in Auria first then ACP into Cubasis for more work with Audiobus...more thoughts ..

  • I agree with boone51. I also use Auria on my iPad 2. Your satisfaction/dissatisfaction with Auria on iPad 2 will greatly depend on your workflow. If you are recording one track at a time (via Audiobus) and then moving on, then it will usually work fine. If you are used to running three or four high powered apps at the same time you will be unhappy with Auria on an iPad 2. Once all of the recorded bits are in place and Audiobus is no longer in use, the mixing will go smoothly unless you bog it down with a ton of fx, especially the FabFilter ones. The FabFilter stuff is really nice, but not essential. I don't own any of them ....yet. Auria comes standard with really nice channel strips (expander, EQ and compressor) that are made by PSP. These fx are still better than what is offered by other apps at this time. If you want to use the high powered apps you will need to freeze tracks as you go. I will admit that there are times I get a little frustrated with Auria on my iPad 2, but I have no regrets about buying/using it. And later this year when I get a new iPad 4 or 5 I will be really glad that I already own and know how to use Auria.

  • OK...right now I'm moving towards getting it now. A couple more points, I'm thinking that the LE version only limits the number of Audio tracks from 48---24...are there any other limits that I should know about..becuase I will not need more than 24..can anyone tell me a bit about the freeze function,, is it like the freeze function in Acid were the effects are converted to audio as part of the track hence cutting them out of the CPU process.

  • Auria LE is missing a lot of things that are important - like freezing. Which does work by turning fx into audio.

I def wouldn't get the LE version here's why:

    image

  • Well thats answered that one..thanks guys..It will have to be the full version then...looks like you get a lot extra for the price difference..

  • The track freeze is the real deal breaker there (especially important on your iPad 2 for all the reasons we've discussed here). I have never regretted purchasing the full version of Auria (or any of the fabfilter plugins I've since purchased as well - ProQ FTW). It would be almost useless to me without track freeze though.

  • Looking at the chart that @JMSexton posted, I'm wondering if any PC/Mac DAWs support .AAF files. I've been wondering if there is any multi-track file format that most DAWs support, or ater they all propriatary?

  • We are gonna go with the full version..will just have to wait a bit..track freeze is the deal breaker, but the added FX and the output matrix are important too..I found a real interesting video on youtube about this..and it was using an iPad 4...you may find this interesting..

A few things here with that video, for starters, most of the quirks she lists at the beginning have been resolved as far as Auria showing up in the output slot etc. Also, you can access the input matrix in Auria by long pressing on the record button in any track. Saves you a step of going to the menu. I do love that she gets off track once she gets Animoog setup and starts doodling around. Welcome to Audiobus...lol. Sometimes (a lot of the time for me) you just get lost in what you're playing with. She also mentions that one of her crashes was when using a plugin while recording. I would discourage that (and I think the guys over at WML do as well - even on an iPad 4). Auria is a beast. I certainly won't promise a crash free experience, but I do think you'll like what you can get out of Auria. That's a nice video she made.

    • you can access the input matrix in Auria by long pressing on the record button

Wow thanks this is great, I had no idea! Unfortunately because of the long press it's even slower than just pressing 'Menu'.

  • I am using iPad 3 and continue to have serious issues with Auria where others seem to have no problems at all. Even doing the simplest of tasks (recording a single track, importing a track, slight EQ or effect) I experience frequent crashes that just make it too unreliable for my workflow...very frustrating at times. It's a roll of the dice. I wouldn't recommend it BUT there are others who seem to have great luck with it.

  • No, way too many issues at the moment from many people, watched all the non dev videos on youtube and not one had a seemless time..one guy got as far as 2 ACP Track and got a memory warning, another showed the transport not responding properly..maybe later when iPad 5 with A7 comes out later this year..I'll look again but right now I just can't justify £35 on it...its a shame because its looks incredable....but it seems that is what it is in-credable...Anyone had a blast with Meteor...

  • Auria v1.07 subbed to Apple....here's a list of fixes and additions....time stretching added and improved stability & streamlined Audiobus implementation...looks promising...

... long hold on record button...

    Thank you!

Looks like quite an update on the way! Some highlights for me:

    • ADDED: functionality which automatically creates new audio tracks any time a new Audiobus input is detected, names it, and automatically sets the input matrix to the correct input
    • ADDED: Audiobus Live Monitor mode - allows monitoring of the original audio from the Audiobus input without going through Auria's mixer.
    • ADDED: Time stretching by dragging a region handle with two fingers. Uses DIRAC time stretching algorithm
    • ADDED: Automatic region duplication by dragging a region handle beyond the end of the current region
    • ADDED: tempo sync functionality for plugins
  • Rim just posted this as well:

Side chain support now added to 1.07
    by Rim » Thu Mar 28, 2013 11:30 am

We had to resubmit 1.07 to Apple today, since I found a potential bug and wanted to get it fixed. So 1.07 will also feature side chain support for plugins. Hope you enjoy!

  • For the Fab filter compressor ?

If so that would be awesome.

  • edited March 2013

I guess you'd have ask that one on the Auria forum to be sure, but I would assume it's for any plugins that are side chain compatible.

    .

  • As for the space... 64 isn't enough either. I'm a little lost to why iPads have such small hard drives. My classic iPod has 120.. Wish i could just swap the disks. lol

  • AFAIK, the iPod Classic has a hard drive where the others use a flash type memory.

I bought a 75? GB Classic way back when flash drive models were much too small for my needs.

Just checked on another forum and the time stretching Dirac they're using is the pro version, not LE so it should be good. Samplewiz is the only other app that I know of using DIRAC technology. the Auria devs seem to know whats up. Good work guys!

Here's a link regarding DIRAC technology:
