DanSeb - Sabotage | DnB | Logic Pro

I don't often write in the DnB genre, but browsing my vocal sample libraries, I liked the sound of this song (from 'Chimera II - by Gracie Van Brunt') which was recorded at 174bpm. It didn't sound right slowed down, so I decided to stick with the native tempo, and go for a DnB track.

It's made with Twin3, Synthmaster 2 and Moog Mariana synths along with some one-shot drum samples. Mastered mostly with FabFilter Plugins.

Hope you enjoy and any comments welcome.

  • Phone speaker listen reveals a pro-sounding commercial DnB banger!

The arp/riff is excellent and fits really well with the drums - I wouldn't have thought of doing this.

As usual you've nailed the vocal timings.

  • Not the kind of thing thing I'd normally listen to, but this seems really well done and, as FPC mentioned, very professional sounding, good job!

  • Really great job well done!

Thanks very much FPC! I'm a little bit out my comfort zone with DnB, so I'm thrilled you think the mix sounds good 👍

Sure! And i agree with FPC regarding the arp/riff. It does fit so nicely. I had to come back for another listen.

This is excellent - great vibe, arp line keeps things bouncing along, catchy vocal hook, clean and clear production. Everything is sitting nicely in the mix. Great job!

I found myself wishing for a couple of things to turn it into an absolate banger ...

    • more dirt/snarl/growl maybe esp in bass line
    • song structure wise, perhaps a section with a different chord pattern, maybe as part of a middle 8 breakdown with a more ambient feel, so the ear comes back to the main chord structure refreshed.
    • maybe use more tension and release, rises and drops to vary the dynamics a little more.

But honestly it's very good as it is - this isn't about improving things, just my take on it :)

Thanks very much craftycurate, I appreciate the suggestions - more 'dirt' is something I often struggle with, I need to work on making things sound a bit more 'gnarly'!

I can see how the other two suggestions would improve things too - I've had 'more breakdown' suggested before so I must remember that...

    Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
