SWAM Woodwinds Breath Control Mode
I am using SWAM Woodwinds (Baritone, Tenor, and Alto Sax) on a Lekholm DM48X MIDI controller harmonica. In the settings for the Tenor Sax, in the Advanced/Midi controls, for the "Breath Ctrl Mode" I can select "Fast" which allows "Breath Ctrl Attack Sens" and "Breath Ctrl H-Rez Threshold" to be adjusted. This is important for being able to blow very softly or loudly into the instrument and get a more natural response from a woodwind instrument. However, if I select "Breath Ctrl Mode" for SWAM Baritone and Alto Sax instruments, the sound just stops and the other two settings can't be used. Has anyone had this problem and come up with a fix?

Not a fix exactly, but I've played swams with a wind controller a LOT and never had such a problem. I wasn't familiar with the setting you mention so had a look at the menus and noticed I have breath control set to 'off' on every instrument (despite always playing them with breath). I've always gone straight to the MIDI menu and pulled up the EWI template - job done. I've had a play with the Breath Ctrl Mode settings and can't replicate your issue - and also don't notice any increase in dynamic range (it's plenty as is). Have you tried leaving this off and just using the DM48 template in MIDI settings?
Not a reply to you issue but,
I didn't even know such thing existed, looks very cool and some demo videos I watched were very impressive. Then I saw the price. Same as a new M3 iPad Air (I'm in Sweden, where DM48X is also made). I know it's a stupid comparison but still, is it worth that kind of money?
It might be a glitch with the settings for the Baritone and Alto Sax. Have you tried updating the firmware or checking the forums for any workarounds? Sometimes a fresh update fixes things, or other users might have some tips.
I noticed that the Tenor sax works fine with the Breath Ctrl settings, but the Baritone and Alto just stop. I haven’t cracked it yet, but maybe try updating to the latest version of SWAM or looking for any patches.
Pxlhg: The DMX is expensive. It did seem like a splurge but I sold a couple of instruments I wasn't playing anymore for the same price as the DMX, so it wasn't a big hit to my pocketbook. I have used it on vacations—on long plane trips and in the hotel room—with headphones, so I can keep up my practicing. Once I get good enough at it, I plan to use it for gigs—non-paying at my level—in combination with chromatic and diatonic harmonicas for some variety. If I weren't really into harmonicas and wanting to play for people, I might not have gotten it. It also helps that I'm retired and have lots of time. So, for me it's been worth it.
TylerD911: I also feel like it could be a glitch, since the Tenor Sax does have access to those settings and the playability is so much nicer. I have not updated to the latest DMX software but I am up to date with my SWAM instruments. I have emailed AUM for suggestions and hope they can help. This is the first forum I've tried and will contact any others I find. I'll try the DMX forum to see what they say, although I think it's a SWAM issue.
good luck.
I found the problem. When setting the parameters for an instrument do this first: In "PreSet Manager" (find this by clicking the name of the instrument at the top of the SWAM settings screen). When the window opens, select "Midi Mapping" from the choices at the top, then scroll way down and select "Seaboard Default". You should now be able to play the instrument softly and loudly. From the 3 dots to the right of Seaboard Default, select "Set as default" and then select the "Save As" button. When you click "Save As" you will get a screen where you name the preset and can check the three buttons below the name you've given it: "Sound Engine", "MIDI Mapping", and "Micro Tuning". After closing out this screen, go on and set the other parameters for the instrument. This works for a DM48X Midi Harmonica. Not sure how it would work on other wind instruments.
