Which apps do I use to get this bubbling sound?

I need your experiential advice: I'm trying to figure out how to make a certain sound and I don't know how people are doing it. It's kind of like a bubbling noise - or almost grinding. It's so satisfying. What apps do I need to do this?

You can hear the sound here (especially around the 19 second mark):

I don’t know, but I like this piece. The Rootsy vibes with the Eastern elements go nicely. At first I was waiting for some breaks, but it ultimately didn’t need them. I’ll have to look more into Quanta.

[Edit] Ok it’s a remix. Checking out Dubmission Records too.

  • In Drambo:

Then play a low note like C0.

  • Ringotron has a bubbling preset, a few actually,

  • I'm not totally sure which one is best, but I've had some fun with Caustic 3 and GarageBand. Both let you experiment with different effects until you nail that bubbling, grinding sound.

  • That's a very cool tune, by the way.

oOOoo - this looks good. I think I'll try it. Thanks

Yes - it's in my Liked songs for sure. This is the genre I like creating the most. I found this piece in a great playlist (not mine):

    It is most righteous

That sounds to me like a filter sweep with a lot of resonance, tuned very low and resonated with some interesting bassy noise, through a synced delay, and possibly a gate filter in places.

In ios, one of those Sugarbytes fx apps will probably do it. Maybe I'd run a Hainbach noise app into one of them to excite it. Or maybe browse the presets in Agonizer.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure I have the skill to be able to connect filters with resonance with this kind of quality. But your comment about the synth is making me wonder if this artist is using a synth patch to get this sound.

    Definitely :)

This is super simple sound and you can do almost with any synth :)

    • simple saw oscillator
    • hipass filter with resonance
    • slow LFO modulates curoff in one direction (let’s saw positivive) and oscillator pitch in reverse direction (negative)
      — alternative is to use two LFOs, one for modulating pitch and other for cutoff .. just remember when cuttog goes up, pitch should go down and vice versa…

it’s called “psytrance squelch”.. you can find tons of tutorials for all kinds of variations of this sound on all kinds of synts in Youtube

    for example:

Thank you! This is extremely helpful! Nice resource!

This will get you in the ballpark. Just mod the filters to taste:
A lot of the bubbles in their music is also made from filter self-oscillation. Most synths can do it, but digital synths sometimes have such a low noise floor that you need to add a bit of noise for them to work. See here for an example:
If you have NI Massive (PC/Mac), the Xenos Soundworks expansions (70s/80's vol 1-5) have a some of these bubble presets in their SFX area.

Fantastic! I have the Moog Model D iOS app - so I will try to make that work (as is shown in the video).
