[Collab?] Van Halen - Jump in orchestral style
I have been transcribing songbook scores into midi as an exercise and thought I would share here. Long story made short, I stumbled upon the concept of figures and phrases as idioms of genres and am interested in seeing if I can extract anything from songs I like.
Anyway, this one is a piano arrangement from “First 50 Classic Rock Songs You Should Play On Piano” and I liked how it sounded with Aparillo. All I feel it needs is an orchestral type of percussion but I have no libraries or ideas of how to go about it.
Anyway, do with it what you’d like if it’s something you might be interested in. Zip file with midi attached below.

Sounds like it might be fun. I just downloaded it.
Imported the MIDI file into Staffpad and assigned some instruments.
I love what you did with it. Are those strings and wind instruments? I like how there isn’t so much reverb as in the one I posted. It also sounds slightly changed in tempo.

Sven Halen!
Looking forward to hearing this in headphones tonight.
It’s not a great showcase for StaffPad because MIDI does not have any articulation data so it’s a very bland orchestra. Synths can have note envelopes to make notes stand out rhythmically.
I didn’t want to hand edit the parts so I published knowing it would be pretty bland.
Yes. Brass (trumpets and trombones) with strings (violins and violas). When MIDM gets imported the tempo is in the data and Staffpad assigns these flute like sound to treble parts and a piano sound to the basses so I just left those parts in the mix too so flute (woodwind) and piano are in there for added complexity.
Missed replying to this. Looking forward to it!
FYI: Cubasis imports multi-channel MIDI files and it’s easy to assign instruments from so many great AUv3 or IAA apps.
👍🏻 I like the cheerfulness. Maybe some tympani or other orch percusssion.
Nice work @AlexY and @McD 👍
